Any drummers in the house ?

A while back I asked for a good sounding affordable guitar and I was directed to guitarfetish.com and I found a great sounding guitar on there. But now I'm wondering it there any great sounding affordable drum kits ? like around 500-600 $

EDIT: LINK FAILURE

Gretsch and Tama both have smaller "jazz" kits that were <$500 and are both solid even beyond beginner tier. That Sonor kit linked (Sonor Jungle) is stunning, man I use it more than my custom kit.

Also... Dream Cymbals are the cat's titties for cheap cymbals. I dig their Bliss line over most Zildjian K's. If you are interested in them you reeeaallly should try to go hit them before you buy... they all have their own character for sure.

18x22 kick drums are for powerful, boomy kicks. Smaller yields more of a focused punch. A lot of people get that confused. Holler back. Hope some of my rambling helps.

New heads and taking your time to tune can go a long way with a cheap used kit.

I have one ramshackle, pieced together cocktail kit that ran me $200. I also have a professional Pearl cocktail kit that ran me $350 and sounds 10000x better.

The trick is finding that happy medium between quality and price. If I do change the heads on my $200 kit it will sound better.

Try and piece together one. That's the cheapest way to go for starters.
