Started with the 404SX and then found a 202 and 303 for cheap. I couldn't resist after all I heard about these machines and I don't regret anything :)

Only 404og and 505 for me. Always wanted the 606 and 202, but just haven't got around to picking them up yet. My ex gf had 2 303s, so I got plenty of time mashin those pads. *wink wink

I used to own:

SP202
SP808
SP606
SP303

Didn't care for the 808 and 606 so much. Liked my 202 as my first sampler, but probably just felt at the time it didn't have enough you could do with it? (Hard to say, kind of forgot). Loved my 303, but lost it in pawn after I had hit bad times. Miss it, but would love to get a 202/303 maybe later. I have never owned the 404og/SX, or the 555. Those are really on my wish list.

So currently, I just own a ST224 and a SP505. Yeah, I know, the 224 is no SP. But I still love it, and I'm sure some of you do as well!

I really need to start working my sampletrak so I get up to speed with it. The ability to resample patterns and sequence them into songs, as well as scale-pitching samples.

My SX was my first and by now I know it pretty well. The 303 really has some sound of its own though. But yesterday the placement of Cancel/DEL-buttons (in comparison to the 404sx) was about to drive me crazy. I deleted lots of work when trying to stop samples playing.

yeah, I want those two features the most, my 606 can get them from software but I want it standalone in the box so I can get away from my screen sometimes.

I know I can pitch shift the samples with the effects, but I envy those who can do it at the press of a button.

I have to resample a button pressed 16 times while changing the pitch with a knob before autochopping, its do-able.

not being able to sample patterns almost made me give-up on my sp till I found out I could resample the delay buffer, if the wet and the echo are all the way up you can get a whole bar in there.

still it would be nice to just be able to resample my pattern.
I have to keep another sp to do that.

I got my sp when the moving company I own did a job for a family who was moving their kid out of his collage apartment. a room there belonged to his room-mate who skipped out on his bill and he had a ton of shit in there, they told me I could have anything in there if I could empty the
room, that's when I found my 606.

I read up on it and joined this community so I soon found out it wasn't the machine I thought it was. I wound up pawning it during some bad times and found I missed it a great deal.

I bought a 505 from a friend but it wasn't the same, I went to guitarcenter and played with a mpc1000 and 500 and found them way overcomplicated. I wound up buying another 606.

it was during that time that I realized what an SP is: just enough midi/sequencing to get by as a sequnser, just enough audio routeing
to be a sampler.. but an effects engine beast. consequently where
SP's fail you as a sampler you have to make up for those failing
with the effects. it forces a lot of creativity out of you but slows down
my process a lot.

don't get me wrong, I love my sp's.

when I want quick, I can go to software.

it's just sometimes I want to use my sp quickly, in standalone mode. that can really make you want another sp that has features yours doesn’t.

my main is my 606, I keep the 505 for bouncing patterns. now I’m thinking of getting a 808 for scaled pitch. and these machines aren’t sold any-more.

why not make just one machine that does it all without being an MV, 16 velocity sensitive pads (with cut groups), 16 voices (give me a voice for every pad please), 505/606ish sequencer, sd card, pattern resampleing, d-beam, dual mfx, 16 levels, and becomes a usb interface/controller.

Yeah I've been wondering if Roland will ever make another SP. They really should since they sell like hotcakes.

My first box was the 303, didn't know anything about it but a mate was selling one kinda cheap. My mum loaned me the cash for it saying ''OK, if you REALLLLLLY need to buy this thing''. Cheers Mum, that was the start of making beats.

Of course i was after an MPC but them shits were way outta the price range at that time for a part time youth worker doing graffiti workshops!

Maybe a year later I got an MPC1000 and shortly after a 404SX from ebay, a 202 from _Lip, and a 404 OG and a 606 from some rich dudes in Norway that didn't know wtf they had. And the hoarding addiction is still strong, I buy SP's whenever I see em if the price is right.

Alnitak kid PM'd bout that 202 ha
