Last year I took a gang of my beats (48 to be exact) and put them all together on a CD that I pressed up and made copies of 'slimcase CDR' style. I stuffed hella envelopes and sent packages out to every magazine, record label, and 'mover/shaker' I could get an address for.

Urb Magzine.com got a hold of it and I was put into a contest called "The Next 1000". The contest is wrapping up soon. I think they narrow it down to 100, and put them in their annual "Next 100" print magazine issue.

I joined this site cuz I love the SP-606 beat machine, & it has become one of my favorite forums beyond beats. I got computer tips from DrSample303, I'm the same age as 606 Man, I follow the economic principles of detaIL, and my first piece of hardware was the Boss DR-660.

I invite ya'll to peep the feature on Urb, and if you're feeling my vibe to take the time a throw down a *****'n vote, leave a funny comment or whatever. Like any online contest- the shit is about as official as a high school election- I think you have to 'sign up', but that gives you a chance to win T-shirts or something like that.

I've never made no serious $$ off my music, and I've faced many challenges and times where I was thinking "Fuck this production shit" like pretty much everyone on this forum. There are tons of big-budget mofos in the contest, and I am just a dude with a dollar & a dream trying to get some shine.

In the spirit of true politics I am giving out some propaganda:
This here is a short video tutorial showing how you can disguise your sample sources:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NOHz0EdT6U

And here SP users can download a WAV that may or may not be useful in your SP-related productions:

I said 'guys' in the title, and I'm wondering if there are ANY ladies on this forum? I love to see women get involved with engineering, and hope they would cop SPs to help keep all studio sessions from being 'swordfights'!

I have a few CD packages left- if anyone would like a copy of the CD, just PM your postal addy and I'll send it to ya while supplies last-

Stay up- Stay healthy- Keep tapping those pads and be thankful in this mad world we get to do things we enjoy like quantize, truncate, chop, etc etc..

Uno!

You got my vote too bro!

By the way you're right, there's lots of big cats on there too.

'Rehab' for example is definitely a professional and established band. What the f... is it doing there? Don't get me wrong, their music is very cool (got some CDs actually), but aren't they a bit too big for this? There's more of those producers who already earned their "millions" figuratively speaking.

Seems a tad unfair to me.

No problem. I was in berkeley today at Peet's coffee and this dude gave me a free cd from the Bay Area Art Collective and we started choppin' it up for a while. I'll rip it and load it for you guys and in the meantime I'm going to see if I can work with there label.

Thanks dudes. I forgot the Urb Next1000 thing is admittedly unclear.
Sometimes you'd click on the stars to 'rate' me & a signup box popped up.
If not you can 'register' @ this link:
http://www.urb.com/my-urb/profile.php?R ... Findex.php

Glad the U.S. political system doesn't use this method to vote or we'd all be screwed.. . oh wait .. we're already screwed...
