i kinda fell off reading books the last 2 years, been reading more journal articles and economist type stuff... but here are some memorable books i've recently read.

1. Cemetery of forgotten books: shadow of the wind
2. The Push by Tommy Caldwell

Dostoevsky is the goat... brothers Karamazov is my favorite from him tho... it will really leave you contemplating things about life in a good way (I think books that make you have this kind of emotional response are the best, depth is important)

slaughterhouse five- kurt Vonnegut

for whom the bell tolls- hemingway

along the lines of 1984, you also have Farenheit 451 by ray Bradbury.

clockwork orange- Anthony burgess (the movie almost lives up to the book which is rare, but you get a lot more familiar with the crazy language that the narrator speaks in the book... its intense.. again in a good way)

Damn this is a great thread. Been reading PK Dick books for a minute... really good sci-fi stuff. Lots of weird time travel inducing psychedelic drugs of the future, themes of male v female conflict, and great character development/psychology.

Recently finished, Flow My Tears The Policeman Said. I'd recommend it, although it's not my favorite of his books that I've read. Now Wait For Last Year is probably my favorite. The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch was also pretty dope. Oh shit... A Scanner Darkly. I've only caught bits and pieces of the animated version of this, but I've heard it's good. I will say that the book is pretty amazing.

The Egyptian by Mika Waltari.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Egyptian

It's a historical novel by Finnish author Mika Waltari - written
in 1945. The story takes place in ancient Egypt. I've read this
book at a young age and I still read it every now and then.
I recommend it to all of you and would be happily surprised if
any of you would read & comment!

It's kind of remarkable how life in ancient Egypt is described in the
book in a very lively and detailed fashion albeit the author never
set foot in Egypt - and google was in it's very early beta state back in the 40's.

On other news: sp-606 is in the mail! It's been some 10 years since I battled here
last time - maybe see you there! (I haven't gotten any better though)

Have you read the 'Enderby' novels by Anthony Burgess?..those are terrific.

Also picked up a really nice second hand hardback copy of A Farewell To Arms by Hemingway a week or so back..looking forward to reading that one again after 20 odd years!

Jorge Luis BORGES's fantastic novels. The author that also accredited the existence of the Necronomicon numerously mentioned by Howard LOVECRAFT.

Reading the Tony Bourdain book right now, and finding it very enjoyable . It’s a lot of fun visualizing this guy as a young man. His writing style is conversational and ranges from raunchy to poetic... what you’d expect if you’re familiar with his on-screen work. Highly recommend it.
