I would get the best AKG headphones you can afford.

i have a pair of pioneer's but they are little uncommfy right so i usually use some sony cd350(mdr) and i know they aren't as loud but they are sensitive and have the nice fit.

Big cosign there, their hardware is top-notch. My condenser mic is a AKG, definitely one of the best out there for it's money and I've also have an AKG K 240 headphone since about a week. I broke my Sennheiser one (mic on it broke and distorted everything constantly), wasn't too happy about it anyways, but sound quality definitely wasn't bad on that one either.

I think you can't really go wrong with the cheaper AKG headphones either.

depends on what yr after, my friend.

you should look for as flat a response as you can get, so the phones don't colour the sound too much. if they do colour it, your mixes will be off on different speakers (of course if you mix thru flat monitors, no probs!).

i had a pair of really low-end Koss phones for years and they served me well. when they died i went with some AKGs, which allowed me to hear stuff in recordings i'd never noticed before (it was crazy). i'm happy with them.

you could check out headphone.com and check price against qualities. the grados come highly recommended from my studio friends.

good luck.
