Its funny how people can go back and forth about the use of software and the use of hardware and which is better. Its kinda funny because before i got into the forums i never even thought of what equipment producers were using. Never even thought about it, at all. Now its like a major topic of discussion and a "who likes who" based around their medium of choice. I used to like this artist, a painter, who painted some sick shit with airbrush, spray paint and all sorts of media. Now he is into the digital painting/ arts world and his shit is even better. Some shit blew dogs for quarters but whatever, hit or miss. Seems like we just looking for a reason to hate computers. REASON 5, FL STUDIO, CUBASE, ABLETON, great software. I just realized reason 5 is the shit cause you can resample quick as fuck now. I understand some people aernt computer heads so hardware is the direction you choose but id use a fucking computer anyday if i could avoid looking like those MPC HACKS that autochop quantize for days. FL STUDIO IS THE SHIT. Im kinda reverse, i hate hardware. If i could post a video of me making the exact same beat in a computer and on hardware, you;d see what i mean. No workarounds in the computer world, no "i hate roland cause they didnt do this and that" no extra 20 mins screwing up your creativity cause your card is full or you have destructive editing and fucked your sample up and gotta find it again. So use what you use but dont think your some sort of GOD cause your doing it the hard way with hardware.

funny guy. good to know you like doing things right, but in my world all the rights are lefts. I just like to smoke L's and make beats, right or wrong, computer or not, no one told me either or. Sp's are the shit tho!!! but computers are too, unless your sending these messages through the old school rotary phone or texting, you know what im talkin about.
Its like when the MOOG first dropped and alot of artist hated it because they believed it was synthetic music and it would crush rock and roll. years later we got sp's and computers.
I wonder what machine will come out next that will make the "next man" feel far more superior than everyone else because he does it one way and not the other and he feels like he is doing it right. somehow...
music is music, fuck the machine. Sounds like a post on gearsluts.com or some shit.

well you are on a forum with a member base that are fans of a line of HARDWARE samplers so you shouldn't be too surprised...but as I said the thread is not about software being wack, tools are tools as you said and the only thing that matters to me about music is whether it's hot or not. The original post was about fucking posers who use software but secretly KNOW it's kinda weak so they take pictures with equipment to save face. Apparently these artists have the perception that others feel making beats on a computer is less professional...either that or they feel like they are doing something that is a "cop out" on some level...otherwise why would people do things like take photos with MPCs they never use?

for the record tho you wilin and you wrong as hell IMO...I seen homies of mine work on beats using FL and it takes them forever so many lil steps they gotta do - maybe it was just their individual processes but the whole procedure seemed more technical and step wise and less "in the moment". on an MP or other hardware once you got your sounds you just play out your shit and can be done in minutes if you have it laid out in your head. software can slow down your workflow b/c you got all these diff steps and features and too many options to slow you down - IMO. Software is an interface, hardware is a tool...

Trust me, i get where everyone is coming from. I just realized that i never even cared about the machine till i got on this forum. Never even thought about it and now my mind is warped. asking myself "how good is he, he is only using a blah, blah blah", but the beat is hot.
Sp's are computers... with TINY FUCKIN SCREENS! but on the reals, all the same shit. To me its all about what your capable of doing with the hardware/software. Time stretch on a sp and get shit, time stretch in the computer and get something with clarity. Bang pads on a sp and resample, all good. Bang pads in fruityloops with a m-audio keyboard and get quantized shit. Rock a mpc and go through endless folders and screens, rock a 404 and groove out easily. Slice your shit in seconds with fruityloops, take forever to get 16 chops on a 404.
TRUST ME I GET IT.
AS FOR THE POSERS...fuck em. They know what they are doing. Maybe its a virus going around where if you aint rockin a mpc you aint making good hip hop, who knows. Im curious to know who this is. And if this cat has PR's n shit, they prolly throwing a mpc at him in the photoshoot or some shit. Mpcs do look good on camera tho, definitly on that QTIP joint.
but whatever, i feel yaw, and its hard to be light-hearted in text form unless i add a bunch of smiley faces after every sentence:) but i aint mean nothing by it.

and im a software to hardware guy. rock fruityloops since version 3. used almost every fuckin vst on hitsquad.com and torrented almost every pc software ever created. I was a software feen at one point. Got my sp 555 and was like wtf, all that just for this. All that choppin and marking endpoints for these 4 chops. fuck this. And im nice with fruityloops, make a beat without even takin a breath and i used to sample like crazy, from cable tv (right through the cable box, and only the left side worked, when you plugged in the red it would screech) Sampling my moms cd collection, vhs tapes and the hbo intro music from the 80 n shit with the neighborhood stop motion fly through. Once i got into hardware all that stopped (cf cards, choppin and all that) So to each his own. Ive only felt comfortable with my 808 but i still aint gonna feel like how i did with fl3 and a old ass shitty computer with a 4 track dj mixer with 12 seconds fo sampling time hooked up to the cable box, cd player and vcr. It feels too easy now, used to fight for a sample.
But not once did i even think about the way i was doing it or what programs, hardware i was using. Always looked at the samash music mags and wish i had a mpc because of what i saw in the videos and heard. Just sold that piece of shit 1k last week. Not my style. Sp's are where its at but i always wish i could go back to the days when none of this mattered, the hype, the debate.
I read this book "Making Beats: The Art of Sample-Based Hip-Hop" by Joseph Schloss. He interviews alot of producers and beatmakers and a few of them mentioning that the younger cats are the ones looking for some form of credibility, either with the music they are sampling or the machines they are using. Many of them said that shit didnt matter, which it doesnt.
FINISHED!
Sorry for turning this thread into something else, im bored as fuck at work. WISH WE COULD SMOKE WEED HERE.

None of this shit does matter tho. We don't care what you use or how you make music, BUT we do come here because this is about SP samplers. It's SP Forums. Most of us use the SP because there's a certain sense of accomplishment using a piece of gear creatively to the max. When we're proud of our music we'll continue to make better music. Most importantly we come here because this is a community where we can all trust each other to give good constructive criticism, ask questions and share ideas. I've been to other beat making and hardware centric forums before and this BY FAR has the best community.

This thread was made for people actin a fool who say one thing and do another just to look good in the limelight. None of us give a fuck, but it's entertaining to discuss.

Lastly, using specific gear for a certain sound is important for some people. When you get on a machine with only limited sample time, limited tracks, and no FX you are forced to get in the "old mindset". But as we adapt we incorporate new ideas to keep it fresh and something that sounds "classic" now has your own twist. It's like if you were trying to put together a symphony for classical music you wouldn't look for a rock guitarist, drummer, bassist etc; instead you would look for people who played instruments of that era and who were trained in that style of music. Some producers take the same approach. Seek out the samples that fit best, use the machine that gives the sound you want and make them work together in harmony. aka The Beat Conductor (sorry not a madlib pun)

nice!!! In the future all the beat machine companies will merge creating the GREATEST SAMPLER EVER MADE. With like AI n shit, then the sampler will become self-aware and take over the world with sound manipulation techniques. Then a sampler disguised as a human being with come back from the future to destroy the mega "korg/akai/roland/" company and try to save the world before mad max beyond thunderdone happens.
Ill be the first to buy one of them shits!!!

I'm going to drink a 40 of color-changing gel, stick little mirrors all over my body and do somersaults on a jumbo rollout keyboard, refracting lasers in a midi controlled laser light show WAAAAAAAA

The MPC is very much de-mystified and now an iconic symbol for hip hop beats. possibly partly due the mainstream success of hustle and flow. Super corny when you see like an mpc shirt at walmart haha but we got mp's on our phone now it's 2011. Innovation time.
