need some help with this.

i can do all sorts of synth sounds well, but for some reason whenever it comes to bass. . I either end up with too much mid and not enough sub, or too much sub and not enough mid/character

any tips?

Make three different versions of the bass loop, hi mid lo then layer them and adjust the sound level on each until it blends with everything else.

Use a high-pass filter to remove all frequencies below 30hz. They are basically inaudible and do nothing but take headroom. Remove them and you can make your bass much punchier in the mix. The other bass secret is compression - without compression bass always sounds a bit 'lifeless'.

If you are worried about your finished bass sound lacking bottom end, repeat your bass pattern with a subsonic sine-wave. The sp can do this for you, if you're feeling lazy!

Another one I remember working for me is the octave fx. It can make a huge bassline huger - with the right sample..
