Just got my 404. Been having a good time making some easy beats to learn the sequencer. But it doesn't seem to me that the quantize function really does anything. My beats don't get cleaned up at all. Shouldn't it align slightly out of sync patterns?
What am I doing wrong?

you have to define the quantize before you start to hit the pads.

are u sure you set the quantize before making your sequence?
are u sure your samples are trimmed good?

quantize puts everything to the nearest set note -but it doesnt necessarily put everything in sync.

thanks for the fast responses...
my samples are trimmed well, and I've tried defining the quantize before I start recording... but it seems to do very little (if anything)

say I'm making an 8 bar loop.. and set the quantize to 8? what will this do? I also thought that you could do some fast synced up hi-hats by setting the Q to 16 or 32... but that doesn't seem to do anything...

also, what tricks have you found around the lack of a copy function? i.e. pasting a whole pattern to a different pad, and then barely altering it to trigger in sequence?

sorry for the flood of questions, but I'm anxious to master the 404...

research quantize on wikipedia to see what it does.

For the pattern copy, go to youtube and type in '404 tips' and watch the video.

quantize is usually used for playing individual drum hits. if your timing is a little off quantize will correct it and place it to the nearest 4th, 8th, 16th ,or 32nd note.

just keep messin with the machine- its easier than reading all this shit.
