Ok, so it seems I managed to get the midiman sp 404 with Fruity Loops talking to each other.. I can start the SP 404 by clicking on the play button inside of FL and stop etc.. I still haven't figured out how to record the midi or if that's possible in FL STudio?

you can't get any MIDI out of the 404,
so you can't send pattern data to a PC as MIDI info
nor can you trigger MIDI events using the 404's pads

is that what you were asking?

I can send midi to Fruity Loops. Infact, I have my midiman showing up inside of the FL settings and when I click on the play button in FL my SP 404 begins playing.. but, I still don't know how to record this midi since the sound is only coming from my SP 404 and does not appear at all inside of FL or on my PC..

What are my options for recording?? what software works well with FL.? I have a compact flash reader usb hooked up to my pc but, I just don't know what software to use for recording my tracks??

You can NOT record midi coming from the sp-404 into FL, for the dumb reason that your sp-404 has NO midi OUT (as Drewzle already pointed out). Do you know what midi is about?

FYI: MIDI is NOT AUDIO. These are 2 different concepts. For more info on midi goto www.tweakheadz.com and readup on the MIDI 101.

I know what midi is but, then why midi in only on the sp 404? and how can I record midi .. so, what's the point of midi then.. just to match the tempo of shit with other devices?

I get it now.. well, I think I get it.. so, then if I want to record shit from midi I will need to then hook up a midi synth ?? I have a midiman usb connected that's between the sp 404 / computer.. i thought this would be all I need to transfer the midi signal and record in some software like FL?

That is indeed the way midi is meant to be implemented but the 404 does only implement half of the midi tts it can respond to midi input but it does not sent midi out. One can't really expect much more for that price, Roland never meant it to be used as a standalone workstation, more a fancy fx processor IMO.

ok, i'm looking at the http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_get_st ... _midi.html page and how to configure midi..

1. I can use my 404 as a midi sound module..midi in to my sp 1200 midi thru
2. sp 1200 midi out to midi in midiman usb interface.
3. midiman usb out to computer usb in..

still not sure if this will work.. probably still need to then take the mix out from the sp 1200 and go to my delta 44 in..??

Let me know if I'm on the right track..

Not really.
Do you want to use the sp-1200 as a sequencer or only as a sound module?

Sequencer.. i guess.. so, how do I record shit? Is there something else I need to purchase like a midi synth?

So, how would I go about using my SP 1200 as a midi Sequencer and then recording shit to some software?

Midi out of your sp-1200 into midi in of your sp-404.
Audio out puts of both sp's into a mixer and output of mixer into stereo line input of the audio card.
Midi output of the computer (midiman) into the midi in of the sp-1200, this way you can sync the sp-1200 sequencer with the recording software (if the sp-1200 understands MTC or MMC I don't know about that since I don't have an sp-1200)).
