Radio is more of a size issue. If you listen to any hit song from the past 50 years, it'll sound fine on the smallest, shittiest, single-speaker pocket radio you can lay your hands on. This is becuase the mix and mastering engineers have spent the time to make sure that it works on such a small, crappy system. So if you think your song is destined to be a hit (and most hip-hop artists do have this goal) you need to make sure your song follows the radio rules; works on small spaekers, heavily compressed and works on one speaker.

As for 'comping' - it means combining tracks, aka bouncing or freezing. If you listen to a finished song on a record, it is a 'combination' of all the tracks that make up that song. What the pros do before that stage though, is combine the constituent parts of the song into groups first. So the drums will all end up on one track, the bassline on another etc. This allows all the sounds in the group to be compressed together, resulting in a much more coherent sound.

Part of the reason SP songs sound so fat is because SP users HAVE to comp things if they wish to make a song!

a good trick is to record your drum pattern to a multitrck recorder and then record it back to the sp... now you can have kick, snare, hihat, whatever you want at4 the same time, in stereo if you like... and it only takes up max 2 notes.. this is a really smart trick..
