You tube cats STILL making mpc beats with just 2 bar loops auto chopped onto 16 pads, banging on em for a few seconds and acting like they just made the hottest shit ever. :?

unfortunately my man DJSHADOW, seems to have switched to computer producing almost entirely. he DEFINETELY has skills, but i was a little disappointed with "the outsider" album, all of his previous work was done on mpc's.

One big shout out though; Q-Tip's album "the renaissance" shows q-tip holding up an mpc (sick), and his beats still rock!

I'm with OP..

There's nothing wrong with using computers for music,

just don't claim you are banging on an MPC in your vids or whatever..

I'm pretty sure he said that he wanted to do something different for that album and not sound like Entroducing. I don't thing it has anything to do with gear.

that album would of be good if he cut all the shit bay area tracks, no disrespect to anyone bay heads here but those tracks were awfull and ruined the album imo.

you're right and-o, the gear doesn't necessarily matter, and i respect his right to make music any way he chooses, i guess i was just a little disappointed with that album. i thought it strange too that for an artist like dj shadow who's a great turntablist, "the outsider" has no scratching on it.

just to clarify def don't think there is anything wrong with using software...

I just saw an interview with a semi big name local producer, who I don't want to put on blast, where he said he has been using software all along but I've seen pics with him and a mpc2000...

My feeling is just embrace the fact that you use FL and a corny lil oxygen keyboard - don't front and try to seem more credible by posing with equipment you have never even used

I think I remember something similar with DangerMouse and some others but it's escaping me at the mo

the only one who followed suit and came in with a gripe.

def feel you on that...the 16 level autochop is the definitive noooob move when it comes to the mpc, everyone starts off by recording in loops and autochopping them. then you are like "wait I have to think and be creative and do my own chops otherwise this gonna be a choppy pile of horse shit every time"

there are no resample fonction or shitty sequencer on any legit software. Still I can't seem to be able to work with them.

for the most part i agree, but the nn-xt sampler in reason can do just as much as ANY mpc, if not more. but i hate using a mouse to make beats (and it takes WAY too many steps).
