i think thats how you represent it ..

accidently set sequence to work of 3 bars instead of 4 . something different

throws the dynamic off but can keep the listener unable to tire of the patterns

..

im convinced 90s ragga used this method dr on drum production

3 bars instead of 4 is still 4/4 time signature.

That's correct, unless it's in another time signature *wink

Jazz artist Steve Lacy (not the producer, the sax player) used three bar motifs a lot in his compositions... was like his signature move.. also a really common technique in a whole bunch of songs by Pixies back in the day. I like it... kind of a fxcx with expectations in a really simple way given the dominance of four, eight and sixteen bar patterns.

3/4 time signature
is 3 beats in a measure or "bar"
where the quarter note = 1 beat.

I think what you're referring too is still 4/4 but instead of phrasing for the typical 1 measure, 2 measure, or 4 measure loops, you chose to do 3 measures for the drums?

Either way, a lot of producers would vary loop lengths, loop time signatures, and such to make the overall melodic loop sound different each time.

Get funky with it
