This guy went big on the Marantz PMD-430 modding - check it at the end when he uses it like a mellotron.. 8)

That's has to be the best one out there so far. CV controlled tape motor speed - WTF?!

This CV controlled motor is a cool mod. I saw some people hooking a potentiometer on walkmans to do that. If you have a tape with a C recorded using a synth or whatever, you can make the note goes up and down and the effect is very good (depending on the walkman XD). I wonder how tape delay is made... probably two reading heads? Not going to delve on that, but it's a cool thing.

Oh, there is this guy, Amulets. He made a cool and simple delay, he just "hooked" two walkmans and glued two tape cases. The first walkman would record the sound, the second one would play what was just recorded. It's a ugly machine, but the effect is good. Also, it's easy to do if you have two cheap walkmans around.

It's incredibly straight forward to do. Chris Randall from Audio Damage did a dope little video where he tried it out and it was literally as simple as connecting a mini jack socket to the connection points of the speed wheel on a vari-speed dictaphone.

Speaking of which, check out what the don, Scott Campbell, does with CV-modded dictaphones:

http://www.ondemagnetique.com

Those models of dictaphone are often less than £20 on eBay. The most I've paid is about £19 and that was for one boxed as new.

Amulets is the shit. Without Amulets, half the internet tape loop fiends still wouldn't have figured out how long the tape length needed to be inside the shell... I think one of his Walkmans was a dictaphone btw. I'll revisit the video to double check thiugh

I actually did my first walkman mode. It's the velocity one. I'm looking around to get one or to more and do weirder stuff like the cv control!
Magnetiqué is fucking nuts, gonna try to do something like that when I find another walkman.
