filter the shit out of the sample + isolate the bass. sometimes ill have the same sample layered over itself on another pad playing simultaneously, but one pad is filtered and lower in the mix, while the other is just mids n highs playing. pan them apart from eachother to make it more full, and just play around from there. other (most) times ill just punch in 2-3 notes from a synth lol

Yeah isolater/eq on samples is a good way to go, as is sampling a few different notes from a keyboard, pentatonic scales and 5th relationships are great in bass lines.

Another thing I like to do is just keep some sub frequency sine wave one shots on hand and layer those under stuff like kick drums and samples that don't have enough low end punch.

My personal favorite tho is just jamming on some keys over a loop on the 303 (which I see you have) since it can resample and record externally at the same time.

i normally just eq the bass a bit higher in the mix unless it's a boring bass line. if that's the case, i'll either use a keyboard or my actual bass, depending on how i'm feeling. then filter and mix!

The thing I like to do is to isolate a heavy bass section I find with the isolator.
If I find that the bass sound is lacking, I do hit it with some low pitch voice trans to get it a bit of grit that sounds way nicer than the distortion that basically chews up the bass.

I used to go the EQ way too, sometimes I used some random low pitch, but nowadays I mostly use Ableton to pitch my samples across a keyboard so I can play more notes than the sample contained originally. If I want a distinct bass sound, apart from the main sample so to say, I try some synths.

I still kinda suck at getting a proper and tight groove going, but at some point I noticed that my EQed bass often turned out muddy and when I started using the synths it was way easier to handle the bass in the mix. Plus it was the first time I could have the bass really bang and noticed what I've always left out in the low end of the track.

I've been messing around with an sp sample bass technique I kinda stumbled upon the other night, I think it's awesome and recommend giving it a try, works on any sp with the c.canceller effect.

You start with a sample with a bass part that you wanna chop (doesn't matter if there's other instruments over top of the bass). Record that into the sp in STEREO with the c.canceller on it, which you set to boost the low end a little and cut the highs a little, use the left/right control to cut out as much of the high part of the sample (piano/vocals/strings or whatever) as it can.
You then resample this in MONO to a new pad and chop it up however you want.
I've found that the conversion from stereo to mono on a sample that has the c.Canceller on it really brings out the bass for some reason, and it sounds super sick when you put the bassy sample under some drums.

I tried it on a bunch of different samples from different genres of music and it seems to be a pretty solid technique. Takes some practice and experimenting to get the right setting on the Canceller but when you do it doesn't sound as flat as a sample with just bass boosting/high cutting with the eq or isolater.
