Hey So I'm using a 303 but I'm sure it's the same as the 404 which I also have.

I just got into pattern sequencing and I now want to copy a pattern so I can make another part of the beat.

Firstly a lot of people explain what do to to achieve it but not whats happening.
I've been looking this up the last few hours and this is the impression I get:

Your suppose to to back the pattern up from A/B then load the back up on banks C/D.

I see how this creates a second of everything you backed up.

The thing I'm just confused/worried about is:

When your backing up your not just backing up a single sample or pattern right?
Since It doesn't give you an option to select a certain pad.

Soooooo.

This means if you do this your loading everything on bank A/B and putting it on C/D. Then you just copy the pattern or sample you want onto A/B.

But... What happens to all the samples and patterns on banks C/D when you do this? They all go away right?

Please help I've got fire here and don't want to lose my samples.

I suppose your meant to back up your samples on banks C/D then reload them there again after you've done all the copying.

I've just never backed up and loaded before so I'm scared shit is going to go wrong.
I have a smart media card.

I just remembered I have an extra smart media card I can put in to do the trick on without effecting my samples on banks C/D.

I still need help with copying and loading back ups.

doesn't backing up just do a/b banks? thats how it is on the 404, so you move the pattern to one of those banks, create the backup, which includes all sounds in a/b and patterns in a/b, then move the backup out of the internals into c/d, then load the back up which will be everything exactly how it was with an extra copy of a pattern on c/d that you moved, so pretty much if you want to copy a pattern create a backup right then and there to make sure you keep all the other samples on the internals the same

Hey thanks this helps me wrap my head around it a bit more.

This will get rid of anything I have on C/D though right?

only if thats how the 303 works, but i would assume its like the 404, where it loads the backup into the same place it saves it from, so if you create it right then and there, then its only gonna replace the internal pads with the sounds that were on them already, so the only real change is the pattern being there cause you move it out of the internals before you load the back up

if for some reason it saves a/b and loads them into c/d then yes you have a problem, don't know why it would be like that though
