Hi guys, i've just got a 404sx few days ago.
And i have two questions about it:
- When i record a loop with the Pattern Sequencer, can i export it on my PC on a wav files? (I found it easier to make beat loop with it)

- I saw the resampling method, so i tried it, but without quantization it's really hard to get what i want, is there any tips to improve without quantization?

Thanks you :)

1. You can record your pattern as a stereo wav into the computer. SP->Soundcard->DAW. The pattern doesn't exist as a wav on your SD-card. So unless someone has invented some clever software that can transform patterns to wav, no.

2. Resampling is about fingerdrumming with natural human swing. If you find it easier you can listen to a metronome (or playalong to a beat/songwhile doing it - there are free metronomes to download as smartphone apps etc. Just like with a drumset you'll become a better fingerdrummer with practise. And more practise. Although, you don't have to play all sounds at once. Start with kick and snare. Resample again and add hats.

DAW means Digital Audio Workstation. Simply a computer with software that allows audio recording.

I'm no computer wiz but I assume that built in mic inputs are in general (very) lacking. You need a standalone audio interface (soundcard) to record with quality.

If you simply need to transfer a pattern to audio you can record it onto any medium. Like cassette tape. Or voicememo on your phone.

Recording to another medium won't always hurt the low end. There are plenty of handheld recorders that are fairly cheap and will retain all frequencies. Like he said, if you have a smartphone, it probably has a recording function on it of some sort, and it won't kill it completely.

If you lose some low end there's a chance to get some back by making Subsonic FX trigger on your kick drum hits.

Well, I'm not promising anything will sound good. But limitations forces creativity. Perfect results takes Abbey Road, Neumann mics and god knows. But anything could be made interesting and unique. And this forum is the Temple of Lofi.

If you put the iphone in front of a speaker. record your pattern. Transfer the recorded file back to an SP-pad and resample with subsonic you might get some kick power back. If you record with the iphone in a live room with reflective surfaces you might also get some natural reverb added to your beat.

If you record your SP-pattern onto cassette, you will get tape hiss. A very valuable asset in lofi.
