so i tried this setup with my 202 line out to 404 line out to cassette deck.
lets say i have drums on 202, sample chops on 404 and my headphones are plugged into the tape deck. when i press record i can hear me triggering both SPs and its sounds good. the problem starts when i press PLAY button and actually start recording on the tape deck, for some reason the drums on the 202 sound like they are 1-2 seconds later than when i trigger them. at first i thought it was just me but after several attempts it still does the same thing. very frustrating bc i get all my sounds and drums ready to jam, jam some until i get my timing right , hit record and it all goes to hell.

the tape deck i have is very simple tascam deck i dont think there is a mono\stereo button. only dolby filter so i am lost as to how to fix it and i feel like such a stoner not being able to figure it out myself

why is this so KASSETTEGODZ

Have you tried running each unit into its own input just to test it out? If nothing is panned in the SPs you aren't losing much besides volume.

I have had several tape recorders and have never had this issue so I am confused too. When you're jamming, are you running the SPs exactly as you are when you're recording?

The drums being slightly delayed sounds like it could be two trips through DSP then to tape.

Pads >> 202 DSP >> EXT IN on 404 >> 404 DSP >> tape deck
Since your audio from the 404 is not delayed, that is really my only guess.

u may be right that will be a hard one to troubleshoot tho cuz i stay so high brizzo
the tape deck only has one input so i going to just run the SPs thru a ghetto mixer before the deck instead of figuring the problem out.

spooky kine tape deck drama i had plenty of cassette stuff growing up and never had this situation before

maybe it's the ghetto mixer

like maybe one channel is f--ked or something or got some delay on it or something

okay just re-read your post and don't think that it;s the mixer...idk lol

Have you tried to mess around with the DSP?

Sounds like a problem I've run into on a project before... and we were able to boil it down to one signal being sent through two DSPs before it hit the DAW.

DSP = Digital Signal Processing

The speed of sound is much faster than the speed of the old processing chips, so you are hearing the delay of the 202 being processed twice. I'd be willing to bet on it.

hey medearis, thanks for the response
u got me to google dsp :)
so i figured it out now,
at first i wanted to just blame the 202
but really it only made sense to me that the problem would be in the tape deck
so i found tascam had that deck on its site. did some reading and saw the tape deck has this small button that says AUTO MONITOR
it is for doing overdubs on the fly i guess
u can have the deck recording from input or from the tape itself
so when i when i was auditioning my track everything would sound find but when i hit play/record it would switch to monitor from tape
and for some reason even though it was monitoring from tape i could hear the input too just really muffled
before i perceived this as a timing issue but on a sober listen i noticed it just sounded like shit and was fucking up my timing

so now when i record i take a extra second and hit the monitor button and switch it back to source\input everything sounds fine and u should hear some tape beats from me soon.
it does suck bc i enjoy jamming on combo SPs and then when i would be ready to record i just hit play with my big toe and never have to stop jamming , can even get a cool fade in like that. now this shit got my big toe work flow all janged up
end of story kids dont smoke too much before u fly a tape deck
do some reading first
