Hello Guys. Let's talk your general production, for example for using to rap over (recording process).

Do you have your samples, drums layed out and cutted, with different patterns (intro bars, verse, hook etc) and you count and change the patterns while recording

OR

you general resample, all in one pad, maybe you have another whitout hats (just for a bit variety in the hole track).

the main reason i ask this is, i want to make beats and my friend rap over it, but i want also a little variety, maybe no hats in the middle of the 2nd verse, to highlight a cool rapline or smg like this.
I really like to stay analogue, and not mess with a DAW, just record my beat in audacity and the 1 minute after my friend spits in the mic.

i hope you get what i mean.
Thanks let me know what you think.
and sorry for my english.

Either method works.
If you tell the rapper that the beat is as is and resample he will write to fit the song, not for you to produce up. Plus you can accomplish most of what you want for rap with a simple drop out or filtered basslin drop if you have an engaging track already. Tape echo can help add more elements at points too as long as they don't get out of control and kill your groove.
Record a quieter ghost snare or two to play live on pick up notes or triplets to add killer variation.

But if your rapper is more of a hot bars type rapper that just spits and won't think about the production after his shit is tracked you will want to leave yourself more room to produce up certain parts. All the same tricks can be applied but now depending on how you record you can apply them to the individual parts. This gives you more options for variation but not much(assuming your working in the SP only). Being able to track DAW opens up a lot of options with multitracking.

For me it matters how you like to make beats plain and simple. Are you like madlib and only send out batches of two tracks or like alchemist who chills in the lab for a week with the artist and they work together on crafting the album. Neither way is better, and sometimes being forced to do things in a new will teach you tricks you can bring back to your old style.

Wow, thanks for your thoughts.
in a few cases, my friend shows up with already written 16 bars, and all that matters are the BPM - and if he likes a beat, he says ok lets go i can do it over this. and then we record, whitout adjusting his lines.

so i guess, we just make a pattern/resampling pad (doesn't matter, i know many of you guys consider quantized pattern as "unreal") and let these go, with different little shots manually pushing while recording such as gunshots, police sirens, aditional snares as you said and so on (i know, keep it simple).

hmm...i think as a "stilistic-thing" to highlight a selected rapline only the mute option in the recorded track afterwards is the only option so far...
