hey folks! have just been thinking about getting a cheap small loop pedal to finish my portable beat making setup. Though I need some sort of rc converter that will let me.

Looping on to the pedal (Output from Loop pedal is turned off via converter)
Sp---->Converter------>Loop pedal

Recording Loop from pedal (Output from Sp is turned off via converter)
Loop pedal------>converter----->Sp

Im thinking it could be a good combination to resampling (basically just free's up your sp pads when your putting loops together and ultimately helps towards making more fleshed out beats then you could just resample all of your loops together and do your mFX stuff to the final mix)

but the question is if a converter like the one i'm looking for exists and if it's in an acceptable price range. I'm thinking of just a cheap 125$ foot pedal so that should be good (can get my moneys worth with guitar playing stuff)

i just realized that their isn't any audio output in their LOL! maybe rigging up a couple rca 2 in's, 1 out's with switches and hooking them up to the amp respectively and my fucking brain can't take this right now! hahaha!

What loop pedal are you looking to buy?

You'll want to look at impedance, but I'm assuming that RCA/unbalanced (like most of the SP series) will work fine using a rca to 1/4" cable to a loop guitar pedal (as most seem to be in stereo).

From what I understand in your post, you want to send the SP output into a loop pedal input and the loop pedal output into the SP input while cables remain connected...

I'm not sure what you're looking for.

I would probably disconnect the SP output after it's recorded into the loop pedal, then record from the loop pedal into the SP (to avoid feedback loop?).

Of course, there may be a more elegant way of doing things and someone should post sooner than later if there is. I'm curious myself.

nicque you got it right! :D

as far as functionality goes it's just a matter of emulating the sp 555 live loop capture (i've just found out how it works on that thing)

was picturing things like these being used to mitigate all of the wires being yanked and flipped about.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Three-way-input ... 1300962019

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Way-2-Input-1 ... 1791670584

but how that would work or if you would be better off just getting another sp or kaoss pad seem to be the questions.

though the potential to rig up some crazy/economical setups seems interesting.

as far as potential loop pedals go i was thinking something like this http://en.audiofanzine.com/looper/tc-el ... eview.html

So heres my 2nd take.

I'm thinking what i might do is take some old wooden cigar box, drill some holes an wire something up my self with some rc sockets, wires and switches.

make the thing work as 2 separate switches and you'd just keep the sp's (EXT SOURCE) button set to off if you need to keep the audio from flicking off/on during a live set.

How do folks make this stuff work when combining 2 samplers together? do they just dedicate one as the recording thing and have the other one hold the samples or do they bounce loops back and forth while changing wires around.

or would someone just be better off plunking the money down on one of those fancy loop stations? but than would they miss out on the ability to bounce those loops back to the sp to use the sp fx?

any nifty little things that others have come up with to do this bouncing back and forth thing that i'm going for?

It sounds like the SP-555 would be the most-excellent addition to your set-up.

The loop pedal that you posted (Ditto Looper) is MONO, which isn't a problem if you sample in MONO. Be aware, I don't think you can seamlessly transition from one loop to another without stopping playback on the DItto Looper. I think this loop module from BOSS would do it without any hiccups, though.

Guitar loop pedals, in my opinion, are great to build layers, as it's easy to record and delete (you can do it with your feet, c'mon!). A guitar loop pedal with two built-in pedals will allow you to switch between two independent patterns or have them superimposed, but it's not always seamless going from one loop to another. It takes practice to get them to sync.

A loop pedal that I had (RC-20XL) would allow me to switch between two different loops (if I remember correctly) via the two built-in pedals. It was easy to layer a groove on the loop pedal (I play guitar/keyboard). However, I wouldn't recommend a guitar loop pedal unless you're going through a mixer that allows your signal to routed to (at least) two separate outputs (AUX and MAIN) and you would want to use a reamp device to correct the impedance and a direct box to record back to line level. Reamps are mono unless Pigtronix releases this Keymaster XL mentionedhere. Some loop pedals (that have two inputs, I assume) can accept line-level (guitar pedals, in general, are high impedance).

Without knowing what you use to get the sounds into the SP-404, my recommendation is an old DJ mixer (that has at least two RCA inputs and two RCA outputs) partnered with another RCA sampler (Boss/Roland SP, AKAI S-20, AKAI Remix 16, or a KORG Kaoss Pad).

Image

On eBay right now, too.

DM-1050 output 1 > SP404 input
SP404 output > RCA sampler input
RCA sampler output > DM-1050 input
DM-1050 output 2 > SP-404input

(plus that device you posted from eBay that will allow you to take the DM-1050 outputs and switch between).

OR...

One of the new KORG Kaoss DJs. Assuming, you don't need a sound source being plugged into the SP-404 at all times. This has two inputs, but one output. Pretty cool that it can be plugged into a computer or works standalone (from what I remember).

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KaossDJ

SP-404 out > RCA sampler in
RCA sampler out > Korg KAOSS DJ in
Korg Kaoss DJ out > SP-404 in

I got sleepy while writing this, so it might be a little off.

hey jovi!
why not kaosspad3 really?
i even thought about using kaossilator 2 - for the mobility.

this way you get more functionality, and it seems a much simpler configuration.

edit:
would be sp->kp3->amp

I think TC Electronics have come out with a stereo version of Ditto Looper now.

So what i'm thinking now is a mini KP2, SP404, a couple 2in/1out converters and 2 switches.

I'll have it setup like shown in the diagram. What i'm hoping it'll do is have a constant connection from either machine to the output amp. The 2 switches would control how the 2 samplers interact with each other.

So you'd either be feeding the effects from the sp to the mini KP2 and just making loops and when you flip the switches the other way the KP2 would feed into the SP so you can sample the loop from the KP2 onto one of the SP pads without the Sp going back into the KP2 of course.

Does this sound like it'll work? if so i think it'd be perfect as the small size of the gadget would work even better.

the inventory should look like this:
SP404
KP2
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Korg-MINI-KAOSS ... 1e99f040e6
2x 2 in/1out converters
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Way-2-Input-1 ... 1791670584

2 switches (hopefully i can find just 1 L/R switch version which would be cheaper by my logic)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Three-way-input ... 1300962019

This all assuming that the mini KP2 does live looping
