yo! glad i finally got that password :P

i'm thinking of getting an sp, (specifically thinking of 404sx)
for live beat making performances, specifically busking.

id love to know how quick can you make a beat with an sp?
say you have already chopped samples?
or say you sample live and only have to do a bit of tweaking(if i sample a fellow busker etc.)

how clumsy is the "resample" way of producing, do you find yourselves deleting and resampling again and again? or is it just a continuous flow of adding samples to the loop\beat?
what about pattern mode?

thanks for anyone taking the time to read this
i'd love to hear some input from you sp-pros :)

Hello and welcome to the SP forums.
i use an SP 404SX and i i do my beats by resampling, have not used the sequencer since the day after i bought it.
on production quickness i think it depends a lot on what you consider "finished". and for me its the simplicity of the SP that makes beat production a very straightforward thing, i tend to loose myself somewhere in the details when i try to achieve something in a DAW.
how often you will delete and re-resample depends a lot on how good of a finger drummer you are, how long the resamples how complicated your thing etc.
i dont think it can compete with a real live looper for sampling live and stacking layers of more sound, but if you come prepared with drums and samples layed out you can do a pretty damn flashy live set with them FX.

hey! thanks for your input.
by coming prepared - do you mean loops? or just drums and samples chopped and ready?

how often do you delete your resamples on an average beat?
(i know i might be a worse finger-drummer but just to have a general idea)

I would hate to ever make a beat live with the sp, there's so much resampling involved in my productions that each 2min beat would take 20min lmao making beats on an sp is the kind of thing you do when you're at home alone in a dark 'foggy' room hahahaha

being prepared for live set can mean anything sry for being unspecific. what i think of is basically a drumloop and some chops to play with on it. or a complete song on a pad and have your hands free to turn knobs and throw kisses. or a bunch of one shots and finger drumming it. if you are with other musicians you can fill in a different role whatever is needed. you can be the drummer, other instrumentalist or just the strange guy with a blinking light machine strapped to his chest making funny noises with a mic going into the SP. whatever floats your goat, if you know beforehand you can prepare a lot of differrent things up to your imagination
