Besides the ones ellaguru mentioned, you guys know of any other multitrack recorders that can record 4 simultaneous inputs? Either digital or analog

I've used the H6, R16, LR16 and the DR680. All of which are great for their designed purpose.

Personally, I think the H6 is one of the best SD card recorders currently available. The R16 is fragile but is simple to use. The pres didn't work well with my preferred drum overheads so I sold it pretty quickly (never tested line inputs).

The LR16 is dope if you don't need the preamps though and it is fookin' sturdy. Never owned one but I've been around one a lot and it has never had an issue.

The TASCAM is nice in it's own... feels squatty in your hands and has some beef to it. Other than the ruggedness, kinda unremarkable (which could be a good thing I guess).

As far as the analog realm goes the TASCAM Portas are always easy to find.
The bigger ones can record on four tracks at the same time, I have the 424 MKIII and it can for sure.. Works well but your tape will not play on a regular deck, so keep that in mind.

Cheers for all the reading material!!!

Can I playback and mix tracks "live" with a R16?

I was looking for something portable which I can use live and either output 4 separate and synced tracks (maybe the R44 does this?) to a mixer or have all-in-one solution like on the Tascam Portas, where I can just playback from the tape and mix the 4 tracks separately live.

I bought a Fostex 160 but it's sticking on Play, I'll get around to opening it and check if it's a simple belt issue or if its dead and gone :( I'll be sad as hell as this guy is perfect for what I want, 4 tracks I/O and one AUX with proper knobs for live playing...

Maybe one of those old digital recorders like the BOSS BR-600 or those ROLAND VS-something can do this? Never got my hands on one, all this stuff is new to me :/
