Strange, I thought this was common knowledge a while ago, I remember seeing the Dakim vid, and started trying it on my SX and it worked well. It´s cool that you can resample a good part on the fly.
I don´t remember seeing this mentioned (maybe it was) but you can turn the delay time knob (CTRL 1) while you are doing this, you can turn the delay time down for a moment then back to maximum again, it starts to rapidly retrigger the delay and this retriggering-glitchyness is saved into the loop you have running! Gets old pretty quick but a cool effect when not overused.

Anyway, I recently bought a 505. I have the 404SX too, it´s maximum delay time is 2 seconds, the 505 has 6 seconds! IMO this helps a lot, the 2 seconds is a bit harrassing. Also a cool setup is running the SX into the 505, the 505 is in the 6 seconds loop mode while the 404 is not... that opens some possibilities, which I haven´t yet explored much.

I found a nice little way to build up beats on the sp404sx using this.

first i'll build up a beat using the delay/
with each segment i want to save for later i'll use the record function (not resample) and record the delay loop. It's now on a pad.

i can then either turn off the delay and play for that loop for awhile (using all the other effects, key improv, etc.) or turn the delay back on again and delay the recorded loop to continue building the beat up.

This can be used to build the beat up or down depending on how you decide to record your loops.

pretty neat. though the limited delay timing settings does keep it from being the end all. should keep me entertained until i drop the money on a loop pedal.

Was bugging out when I saw him doing this with a 404 and dr groove dr 202. He eventually showed me. Then the next day I happen to see the Dakim delay video posted lol. Dakim is seriously a genius tho.

My fav live beat performer. Inspires me to keep it live 100% for my shows.

I tried it and it kinda works when I make a lil loop. But adding more layers after resampling is difficult. Everything gets really out of sync on top of it. Is there a way to get it more in line, more quantized in sync? Would be nice to really compose joints with this method.

I just found out a nice way to record loops that you build with the delay fx, using the resample function, and without a second SP or other recording device.

On the 303:

- Set the machine on a slow delay (t2 or t1) as described above, with ctrl 2 and 3 all the way to the right.
-Set all the samples you want to use to use the delay fx.
- Build the loop by adding little snippets of sound (use short samples or set the pads to gate).
- When you have a loop you like, press resample and rec, and use an empty pad (or one with the sample volume turned down to 0) to start the resample recording. (This way you don't add any more sound to the loop as you trigger the resampling.) The delayed sound will keep playing as the recording starts.

Of course you can also build the loop while you're already recording/resampling, but this way you won't run out of sampling time too quickly, you can just mess around with no time pressure until you get a nice result, then record that.

I'll try if the 404sx allows the same method later on. Might be it cuts off the delay fx sound when you start the resampling, because it's just less nice than the 303.

man, the only thing i found bad is that after some seconds, maybe 30, the sounds became in feedback and distort, other than that the sync problem you say is not that difficult to me, you have maybe to practice a lil bit more, just an advice, trying to set hats likes sort of background metronome and there you go

@ellaguru. I see what you mean. But I'm a no quantize dude with an oke sense of rhythm. But in case of this dakim delay method it's a different story. When u try to add more sounds with the delay method on top of a loop (done the same method) it's like playing roulette.

I've been giving this method some heavy time for the past few months. In my opinion it's the most fun way to play around with the SP, and it really works well in a live setting.

I did a 2-3 hour set with the 404sx + microkorg last month and it was my best performance. https://soundcloud.com/dr00pyyy/live-runkr00m-11282015
I'm still learning techniques and sharpening my keyskills, i really like how the decay of the delay forces emergence in the whole beatmaking process. It feels like painting with sound.

I just delved into the Dakim method yesterday and it is really fun. However, the short delay time on the 404sx is kind of blah. I have a flashback delay + looper pedal that ima fuck with after work. Anybody used a delay or looper pedal with their sp?
