You can still get 'em!

This one is still in production:

I just bought it at a local media store, for 30 bucks.
it has a built in mic (crappy one) a mic input and headphones output.
It's kinda' lacking bass but sounds aite':

(the beat isn't too good either, works fine though)

It runs on batteries and has a built-in speaker which works quite well for me.

I love it for the portability and the easy use, suits my sp404 and pt01!

GET ONE WHILE THEY ARE STILL AVAIVEBLE!

The name is:
Panasonic RQ-2102

i had one of them before. if you use a computer and something like fruity loops then it's nice to record a whole tapes worth of samples and then just load FL and start sampling and flipping like crazy.

Word, it uses regular cassette tapes. I record my songs through the mic in 3.5 jack and track it out through the headphones jack.

The built in mic actually isn't all that bad, I just tested it playing some keys on an old dusty yamaha joint with a speaker, sounded quite good!

haha, when I was learning German my teacher had this recorder. funny now these lo-fi beats will remind me that I don't know a word in German!

We used to listen to Deutche Schlager on those little suckers. Imo pretty old player. :)

This is where it's at for the really portable 4-track lab.

i've found a sony store that still sells a load of these tape recorders. i think im gonna cop one and use it for my sampling purposes.

the great thing about these is that they are meant for recording lectures and patients and stuff so if you get a good one then the built in mic is actually quite good.

i know the 404 has a built in mic but even though the machine is portable it's not something you would carry around with you everyday.

but if you cop one of these you can just keep it in your pocket all day and record the weirdest things like people on the bus, conversations with people.

real spur of the moment stuff.

dope.

I use a tascam 414 myself, got it for £30 off e-bay. The window thats supposed to cover the tape is missing but i think it looks cooler like that!

A couple of years ago I used to carry one of those little dictaphones around with me and record all this random stuff like just sounds I heard, parts of conversations etc. I'll have to have a search around for that I still have it somewhere.

These days I use a Hi-MD minidisc for doing "field recordings" etc, it's so much easier to carry around the the quality is awsome. Tapes are great for lo-fi effects etc but sometimes they're not that practical.

I still love em though, for years I had this fantastic tape walkman when everybody else had MP3 players. I used to carry about 30 cassettes in my schoolbag lol
