I voted both because some effects are dynamic and therefore need a resampled pattern(like compression and pitching) but most of the time I use pattern sequencer. I hated it at first but a tip I learned was to actually quantize it on the first beat and then everything else can pretty much be unquantized.

^good tip.

Damn. Didn’t know resample was so strong. I’ve always been good w the sequencer. I usually only quantize drums, and include unquantized elements... unless I’m going for that classic super-basic super-quantized drum track (which works well in certain applications imo). Everything else is unquantized but sequenced so I can process individual parts/samples further after hearing them together or track stuff out, usually just to 8-track.

I think I like the art of sequencing as much as the art of sampling & sound design on these boxes. The challenges of these limited sequencers adds an interesting element. I also think using the sequencer allows for more complex song arrangements. The multitrack sequencer on the 505 is fun too.

I voted both as well, I like using both....just depends....normally I use both at the same time.......either resample sounds with effects added, or make resampled loops & put them in the sequencer, with sequenced samples....

Hey Monophone, what do you mean by "some effects are dynamic and therefore need a resampled pattern (like compression and pitching)". Does resampling change the sound? Or do you mean certain effects effect a loop differently than a single sample? I feel like I have something to learn from this........

& yeah, I love limited gear and the challenges they bring :)

I dont think there is a point in just using one method over the other. Using both is the most convenient and can easily surpass some of the limits the 404 has. Using both as a combo to make a whole track in the seq with resampled loops and gated chops
