Crazy you seem to be the first person that's thought of this, really dope, props over here- this seriously could have a big impact on some peoples workflow that have another sampler or something else to record to......I rememeber shortly after I got my 404 learning about mute groups from watching Boon Doc vids (A really ill beatmaker, but sadly is partially resposnsible for the flood of wack mpc autochoppers)..I thought I came up with the solution- using empty air samples to set the polyphony to only allow one sample to play at a time over your drums- Felt like a genious till I tried it-- when you do this you have no control over what sounds cut out,it's just completely random.Again-this is dope,I'ma at least try it simply 'cause I have no idea what it feels like to play chops in a mute group, I always thought this would be a great way to be more creative w/chopping-minus the auto chops. My routine on the 404 has always been to play my chops in gate-'cause I usually have no idea what I'm gonna do with them once they're on the pads, usually record 1-2 bars at a time. I'm thinking you can switch banks in delete mode too right? Nice...alright, we all need to go make some 2 bar sample 16 pad you tube videos!! Peace Flop

Great responses, its nice that i've found something cool for you guys. I've been learning so much on these boards I was feeling a little guilty, ha.

 , As my dad says: "This machine can do so much good, but you're using it for evil" (Referring to me making beats instead of digitising his old records and tapes for him)

Naw-but if you have some kind of multi track recorder,or a software recording program, you can record like that using this method-or another sp & any other sampler with a lot of memory.still haven't tried it but will be soon.

I was using this effect for quite a while, but now I am addicted to holding the pads down while gate and loop are illuminated and jumping to each pad when it is time. If I need to do some super knob combos that need two hands, I will resample that performance. My last 5 beats on soundcloud were done that way. I love the DEL method, but full disclosure, I have deleted some pads on accident.

....i think that method is working also on the sp-606, if i rememeber correctly whan you come to the delete page, you make soud every sample you want to delete...btw, the sp-606 has its own ultracool mute group... i don't have checked the 505 too......maybe....??

you can also do mute groups by putting your samples on loop and with gate off. So you play the first sample and then when you want to play your next sample you press the previous pad and then the new pad you want...I show this technique on the 202 herehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjatVnM ... e=youtu.be
