it's cool. my black face-plate or my madlib expansion pack hasn't arrived yet but it's cool.

anyway. this thing can't control external devices through MIDI so what is the best way to to use my alesis micron with this machine???

just plug into the audio inputs and record from there??

also im having some problems getting used to the chopping on this thing. anyone got any tips or advice for me??

so far anyway the machine has been cool, ive just been making kind of drum loops and the FX are really nice. the i like best about this machine tho, is that it is actually fun to work with. everything (sans chopping) is fast and easy.

anyway im having a great time with this little thing :D

guess you gotta be a regular member to catch onto the sarcasm.

i usually just come on here to listen to beats.

as far as chopping goes, youll get used to it. mark the sample as close as you can then use the fine adjust (and repeat). ill usually have my sample set on gate and keep barely hitting it to see if theres any dead space or attack cut out in the beginning. from there, you resample and keep it moving.

Yeah, there's lots of sarcasm but no haters like FP.

madlib kinda got famous on a sp-303, but that is by no means all he used just his clanger of choice early on. by the way on the micron u got velocity sensitive right plus a midi out, yeh. you could route all your banks and trigger it all at the level you wish cuz 404 accepts velocity sensitive it just doesn't have that type of pads. oh and doesn't the micron have a song sequencer option or is that just patterns. if it's songs you could have a little production center right there...

I feel like he got famous on the sp-1200, after he produced all the Lootpack songs people really started to notice him, his dad actually made a label and put out the Lootpack album 'cause stupid ass A&R's weren't tryin' to hear it. Madlib is just trying to show all the suckas out there that the price and "limitations" of the sp-303 have nothing to do with personal creativity and beat making abilities.

the micron just does patterns.

but i never thought about that, i could hook up the 404 to the micron and make the micron the master (don't have a MIDI cable yet tho) would that mean that i could load samples into the 404 and then play them on the micron??

Yes, you can chop you sample onto the pads and play them back like an Asr.

No auto chop but I never liked autochop, I always find myself editing the lame as marks that they make anyways.

The 404 does not have midi out, which would be nice.

the 404 sends out midi wise; absolutely nothing.

i'm not a guru. have yet to send my microkorg through but believe it would be rather easy. i wouldn't sell that micron 4 a 4 track. cuz once u figure out the midi capabilies u will see many more possibilities. plus i've heard the sounds are very harmonic.

Yeah I'll cosign that ^, a good synth/midi controller is way more valuable and useful considering you can sequence just fine in the 404. You can also find a 4-track tape recorder on ebay or craigslist for like $40 so I see no need to sell the micron, unless your more broke then me but I doubt it.
