i'm using a midi controller to play the 404sx, but though it works perfectly in regular mode and during pattern sequencing, it won't trigger the pads in resample mode - what's the deal with that?
i thought this would be especially useful, having control (with velocity) over pads on different banks without having to switch but i guess roland thought this shouldn't be possible... i wonder why.
or is there a way to get this to work?

yeah man it's frustrating.. I find playing from a midi controller alot tighter, so if i could resample beats while playing with midi, itd be much nicer

ok thanks for the reply.
it would be great if someone can hack the OS, since stuff like this is not based on hardware limitations... thinking of all the things that can be improved, it would amount to a neat package of new features. :D

not likely to happen man, that sort of thing is ALOT of work..
some of the MPCs have JJOS because the people making it are ex-akai and had access to the original MPC code... Honestly there are just not enough people using SPs to have a big enough community to support custom OS.

I wish I saw this thread earlier..

I have spent the last month trying to connect my MPD to my SX. I bought a MIDI Cable and Power supply for the akai.. Then I spent the rest of the time trying to figure out why I was unable to get those two to play nice. I finally managed to update the MPD's firmware a couple of hours ago and to get everything working then I get to this part...

I mean c'mon.

Yeah it's a bummer... Thankfully you can still use pattern mode to layer performances.. Just turn the metronome vol off and you can get your performance however you want, velocity and all!

Yeah.. Thanks, but I'll pass.
I find Pattern Mode very clunky and not that good. Besides, my issue is that I wanted to be able to resample a quantized beat onto a pad without using external recorder. If I am going to use Ableton to record the patterns I might as well stay in Ableton. Its perfect as it is, when combined with the MPD. If I was able to create quantized beats on the 404 I wouldn't have a reason to turn on the computer until it is time for mix and master.
Anyway, thats another point for Roland vs the common user.
