is it possible to bulk load wav or aif files, which i put one the CF card automatically into the sp404?

i'm a little bit confused. i read somewhere on the www that the sp404 automatic imports the files from the CF card automatically to the bank starting at C.

but when i put wav or aif files on the root folder nothing happens. nether when i put them in the roland folder.

or does this just dont work, so i have to import ever sample manually?!

thx

Look here:

Chapter 6 is what you're looking for.

so i have to import all samples by pressing cancel+resample? i thougt it could play direclty from cf card.

so, when i have like 2 hour samples, i have to wait 2 hours for importing?

Yes the SP-404 can play directly from CF card, and infact it does all the time. You just have to convert, thus, import the samples first. The 404 doesn't use the Wave format internally, but its own one.

And yes, you'll have to wait for the import. What what do you need two hours of audio for anyways?

no..

the 404 uses compressed data format, the 404SX does not.. so the editor won't deliver the samples to the 404 in the right format

hiya

just asking for more info on this.
Im trying to avoid using the terrible / slow mac 1990's style app i'm currently enduring...
one sample at a time and no drag and drop...
keeps defaulting to the document folder and not the last used import folder .... very annoying.

if i wanted to import a lot of samples is there a specific naming convention to use to ensure it is imported where i want it ?

do i have to match the A0000000.wav , A0000001.wav , or B , C , D etc like that sd card has in the sub folder ?..and put those files in the root folder and use import on device ?.

and , is there any specific way to order them in order to help prioritise the notes being played ? are bank A higher priority and unlikely to get cut off (i've looked , couldn't see anything though i just quickly scanned the manual)

thanks everyone.

The 404sx came with a wave converter (on a disk) that allows you to dump samples from your computer to the 404sx - Free download:

http://www.winportal.com/sp-404sx-wave-converter

It seems more simple than the editor, but it's possible it's quicker, I'm pretty sure it allows you to just drop samples where you want on the pads w/o having to name them. This is what it looks like:

Image

I've never used it tho, so I'm not 100, but it's worth lookin into.

Edit - When I preview I see the above pic, but after posting it turned into an X - If you want to see it, it's here: https://denken24.de/wp-content/uploads/ ... 62x300.png

Another suggestion, just try out the different shit you're asking about. First try dumping everything in it w/o naming the samples.... see what happens..... if it doesn't work try naming a few samples & see if it puts it in the correct place (A0000000001.wav, A000000002.wav, ect).
Then maybe make a beat with the sequencer using samples in bank A & samples elsewhere, push it to it's limits to see what drops out. If I ever hit polyphony limit, I either change some samples to mono &/or make some loops in resample mode placing them in the sequencer at different points.

Then come back here & post your findings 8)

I haven't read entire thread but wanted to confirm with Sharris that's exactly how it works. I use it to drop sliced drum kits and a full octave range from instruments created with Ableton. I know this makes me a tool using a 404 with digital sound source but it works, Hahaha! It's Very simple but does it's job, also can be downloaded direct from rolands site. The file name will be converted to there format on the SD card during transfer.

hi
ive been using the wave converter , i guess my question was 'surely theres a better way of doing it as its very tedious'. .

- one sample at a time.
- keeps reverting back to document folder instead of last folder.
- no setup of loop, gate, etc etc.
- no drag and drop of a sample onto the pad , have to use file system.
- one small set of 12 pads at a time
- no indication of original sample path, name, anything.

i'm organising my samples with the pad prefixed on the Wav file to help keep track of things , i'm doing this with my circuit samples too (which in some respects is worse as its only mono samples , no loop points or reverse and more quirky to them them on the actual device , less polyphony , less fx types)

i guess i expected more but have to work with what they wrote decades ago.
i was looking for a basic stereo sample player , i got it , along with basic terrible software to go with it.
on the plus side.
its easy to trigger from external sequencer .
thanks for the replies..

I thought you could drag & drop with the wave convertor, so I thought you were talkin about the other software. There are 2 for the sp404sx that I know of, check out the other one, it's called bankrobber

I found the following youtube video, I THINK it's about bankrobber (if it's not then there are 3 softwares for the sp404sx)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtH-x6_ar1o

Bankrobber might have features you prefer, but I have a feeling it will be limited as well. It's for a limited machine.
But that's 1 thing I love about it 8)
