that is some (from what it sounds) good advice... it says you live in Oakland...I'm in El Cerrito... maybe we could meet up and you could pass on some 404 knowledge.

I'm trying to make a basic electronic/hip-hop album... I've only had the 404 for about 2 months....

thanks for the advice... just thought I could maybe talk to someone who knows this style of music production, since I live so close. But I understand that, around here, it sounds kinda weird to meet someone in person. Good luck on your future projects....

There's a couple different reasons why I never meet up with people I meet online, but if you ever have a question you can send me a PM and I'll help you out.

cool. I'm not sure what you mean by "gain" I mean, I know what that is... but I don't think it's an option on my Tascam... I just route the RCA cables into the sub-in connectors, and crank up the volume until I get a loud enough signal. I have to have the 404 vol. 3/4ths of the way up...

Hey, I assume you meant to post this in the "noise problems" thread? So I'll respond here as if that is the case.

What exact model of Tascam are you using? Does it look like this one?

And if so, those little sliders right next to the big volume faders for each individual track is what I meant when I said gain. There are the four volume control sliders for each of the four tracks, then next to them there's a smaller fader, which is your gain for the inputs. You may not have that on the one you have, but I'm not sure what model you have...

yup... that's the one... are those of you who are recording onto one using some kind of adapter to route the RCA directly into the 1/4 jacks in front of each fader? if not, it doesn't seem to matter if the gain sliders are turned up or all the way down. I'm connecting the RCA into the back of the unite... in the sub-in RCA jacks.

That could be your problem righ there... I use an adaptor that goes RCA to 1/4 inch. You can get one of those for very very cheap. I would highly reccomend picking one up and going into the inputs on the front of the 4 track.

no bad experiences and I plan on keeping it that way. I actually went to alto music (a gigantic music store where i live) and they dont sell cassette track recorders anymore. It looks like cassette is getting harder to find everyday and it seems like no place sells used shit anymore- it all goes on ebay. I hate you ebay.
