long story short, i bought a 303 around 3 or 4 years ago, sold it and got an mpc1000, then i got a 404 because i remembered how cool the 303 was and how much the effects kicked, and then i sold it because i bought a mpc 500 haha, but now im back on the 404

i'm currently using a mpc 2000xl with the 404

and god i regret wasting all that time buy and selling and stuff, i wish i would've just kept my 303 and used it with my 1000...

but this time i think the 404 will be around for a long while :)

Man,don't beat up yourself for that. For some,it takes a while figuring out what setup is the most comfortable.
Glad to see that you enjoy the sp-series :)

i gotta say the sequencer of 404 was the only thing that truly fucked me up in the beginning but now i love it!! MPC sequencing feels like shit nowadays.

eeeeppppp

i wouldnt go so far to say that, but a different story for you

i just tried the midi on my 404 with my xl

and

it records the notes at the exact same spot when quantized on the mpc 16th notes with a 61% swing with quantize off on the 404... couldnt belive my ears, i played the 404 straight midi and then recorded the sequence and kept comparing the two and the notes were definitely in the same places, might have been my ears playing tricks on me, but you can get the 404 to swing very similarly to an mpc, its just a bit harder cause it doesnt have the swing settings.....

hey observ

you weren't recording the midi out from the mpc into the 404?
'cos then it'd record the note events at the exact time the mpc's sequencer spits it out, with that swing setting

which could explain it?

The 404 sequencer is all I need. The MPC sequencer is more feature packed... but not better. 96PPQN..same as the 404 :) quantize to 16th triplets on the 404 and and I think its the same as the MPC 16th with 62% swing or something.

yeah i was, but that was the point, i wanted to see if it would record the notes at the exact same spot that the mpc placed the notes.... should've mentioned that....

thats what I always do...this is what I did when I had an MPC also. Now... you have actually play the pattern with swing... if you play strait it will come out strait... if you play with swing the sequencer will catch it.

right - but it will quantize the mofo into a more swinging pattern, yes? i guess what i'm asking is: will it straighten it up, but still let it swing?

because i once heard that it don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing.
