When I create a new beat I prefer to organize all the samples and patterns in BANKS A and B so I can save a whole song as a backup.

I can't work when there are samples everywhere on my sp-404. i took it with me on holiday but forgot i sampled a lot of radio stuff and it was so unorganized i couldnt really make a beat on it and the samples were to dope to delete.

I think it's a good idea to start out with empty internal banks ( A + B ) and copy samples you wanna use from your compact flash banks to your internal bank.
so you can have a card with drums, one with basses...and so on. And of course keep one compact flash card for the backup of your beats.

I also keep a little notepad and a pen with my sp-404 to write down the tempo (which you can't save :-( ) of each song I made and the order in which the different patterns have to be played in order to reproduce the song.
