now, i'm not some big-city lawyer (adjusts suspenders...), but i'm not sure that the pre-57 is an absolute rule (tho its probably not be suggested as such).

it seems to me that the recording could be outside of copyright, but the music still be under someone's thumb. i mean, 'happy birthday' is still copyright, you know?

also, i pull stuff from CDs, and i'd assume that ends the pre-57 thing right off (someone has to own it to re-issue it). but again, frantic wrote "records".

so again, i'm not an expert by any means, but i thought i'd throw this out there. all this stuff makes my brain hurt the further i delve.

here's something to look at tho: http://www.pdinfo.com/

only poking thru there myself...

EDIT: i can't wait for 2067

Oh and by the way, for the people who didnt see this video about the 'Amen Break' it has some history on sampling and rights.

for sure. i'm not too worried about lawsuits or whatevs, i was just trying to make the point that there isn't really a free-and-clear way to legally sample.

the only solution then - just sample!

EDIT: that youchube vid is interesting too. thanks for that.

plenty of jazz kits and the like apparently very good quality.. so I'll upload a few 12 hit kits once I've had a play with it
