Whatup fam, i've been checking this forum out for a while now and it's been instrumental in my decision in getting the sp-404 myself. This little box is ill..i've been having mad fun learning the box.... but now I have a problem. I have the korg pad kontrol and want to hook it up with the sp. I got midi cables, got the ac adaptor and I believe I have the midi setup correctly but obviously I dont cuz the shit aint working. I think that the problem is probably the midi setup so a quick run down of what I've done:

Hooked up a midi cable btwn the padkontrol and the sp-404 (midi out on padkontrol and midi in on the sp-404)

hit Settings and Note/cc# on the padkontrol then set up the pads from 59 to 70 (pads 1-12 on the korg).

I also set the midi channels on the padkontrol pads from 1 to 12

On the SP-404 I attempted to SYNC to an external Midi device and have the sync mode set to "off"

Tell me i did something wrong...pls help a brotha out.

Props to all heads in the forum

Peace

Rajwon

I would leave midi on the 404 on auto instead of off just in case.. even though I dont think it makes a difference..but u never know.. crazy bugs out there. But, sounds to me like you got your 404 and pad control talking on different channels. Make sure the 404 is set to the same midi channel as the pad control.. I think to change the channel you just power it on by holding the pad of the desired channel. I could be wrong... check your manual.

Yo man thanks for such a quick reply...I took your advice and tried to set up the midi channels on sp-404 to match those on the pad kontrol...here's what I did:

Pads 1-12 on padkontrol set on midi channels 1-12 for each corresponding pad.

Pads 1-12 on the sp-404 set to c1 to c12 for the 12 pads....

know I know this may be mad retarded but I still cant get this shit to work..and I've literally been DREAMING about this setup...so please man if you can tell me if what im doing is correct...and thanks again for the quick reply.

peace

Do you mind giving some tips with how you got it to work?

I've followed your same steps and they're just not talking to each other. What's the trick? Do I have to use DC power with the Padkontrol or can I be plugged in via USB? Do you have to use a DAW to kick it off?

Been messing with this for too long, I feel dumb.

Woop! I figured it out too - I'll leave a guide in case any cats are trying to figure out the same.

Basically, you want to use the Midi Chart in Chapter 7 of the Sp-404 User Guide to determine how you want to trigger your SP-404. Once you get your notes all aligned on the Padkontrol to trigger your SP-404 how you want, set all the pads on the Padkontrol to the same midi channel and do the same for the SP-404 (mine are all set to Ch. 1)

Now, the big trick is when you open your DAW; make sure you select EXTERNAL MIDI as your input for your new track. If you select Audio of Software instrument when making a new track (especially in Logic Pro) the SP wont know you're trying to communicate with it.

Good luck guys (this combo is awesome!)

1. Turn off the SP-404.

2. While holding [PAD 1], turn on the power.

3. To trigger samples on Bank A, send notes B2-A#3 on MIDI channel 1. B2 will trigger Pad 1, C2 will trigger Pad 2, C#2 will trigger Pad 3, and so on.

To trigger samples on Bank B, send notes B3-A#4 on MIDI channel 1.

To trigger samples on Bank C, send notes B4-A#5 on MIDI channel 1.

To trigger samples on Bank D, send notes B5-A#6 on MIDI channel 1.

To trigger samples on Bank E, send notes B6-A#7 on MIDI channel 1.

To trigger samples on Bank F, send notes B7-A#8 on MIDI channel 2.

To trigger samples on Bank G, send notes B4-A#5 on MIDI channel 2.

To trigger samples on Bank H, send notes B5-A#6 on MIDI channel 2.

To trigger samples on Bank I, send notes B6-A#7 on MIDI channel 2.

To trigger samples on Bank J, send notes B7-A#8 on MIDI channel 2.

Attached is the Editor Librarian file just transmit the set to the padkontrol

Just download and install the Editor

http://www.korg.com/us/products/controllers/padkontrol/

Connect your pad control with a USB cable and
