I've owned the 555 quite a while ago, sold it, but will probably get a 404 again soon, for it's simplicity and overall quality, also it fits much better into my setup now.

Anyway, I'd like to know if there's a possibility to set the 404 to fade out a sample after stopping it, i.e., when I stop the sample hitting the pad, the sound should go on while fading out for some seconds, just to avoid an abrupt end of sound for that sample.

I don't know if that is possible at all, honestly I doubt it. But maybe there's a way to achieve it (using the effects?).

If the 404 can't do it, which sampler would do that? An MPC perhaps?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

You can resample while tweaking the level knob to record a fade in/out effect to your original sample. You'll end up with one pad that is the original sample and another pad with the fade in/out effect.

Yeah, thanks. Good idea. So I would have to start the FdeOut-sample just the moment when stopping the original sample, right?

Yeah that sounds like it should work......not the most elegant solution, but i guess it works - somebody else may have a better idea. Seems like a lot of the neat 404 tricks involve resampling and resampling some more.

Actually, I don't have mine in front of me right now, now that i think about it i'm not sure if you can change the sample level dynamically while resampling......maybe could use an effect where one of the knobs controls the drive/level/balance of the sample to get the dynamic volume change you want while resampling.

Choose your sample, apply Subsonic Effect [no.22] to it.
CTRL 2 knob - all the way to the right
CTRL 1 knob is unimportant
CTRL 3 knob corresponds to the volume of your sample.
Now hit the pad with your sample and try CTRL 3 knob to see how it works :P
Now hit [resample]+[rec]
choose the destination pad and hit it
hit [rec] once more
now if you want to make fade in, set your ctrl 3 to minimum, hit the pad of your choice [recording starts] and fluently raise the volume with ctrl 3.
When your satisfied with what you've done, hit [rec] to end your resampling process.

Basically, that's how you make it :)

That's the way. You guys are great, as is this forum. I have to keep that workaround in mind until I actually have the 404 lol..

They have increased the prices for 404 and 555, at least in Europe, due to decreasing Euro against Yen, I think. But it's still quite cheap compared to MPC models, with less features, but that's actually why I like it. Not so much stuff to be aware of...

can always track out and do it on that too, i love keepin it inside the box, but out to a cheap tape deck or simple multitracker and then back into the box to export to wav is pretty "in the box" to me still

Don't want to rock the boat....how do I change it? Won't let me register a new user name with the same email address.

Don't worry 'bout it man we all like to play on here, but no one takes anything too serious. I think Shmedy was just a little shocked to see a name so similar at first but he's mad chill. P.S. the only way to change your name is to contact the Admin which is Keesj and I do believe he's in Prague on vacation currently.
