I'm sure there's a cimple way...

Try this...

Knob 3 at max
Press Remain+your pad - this makes it the active pad without triggering it.
Hit Level
Lower the volume to taste with knob 3
Not automatic I know ;)

The same works for fade in if you start with the knob at minimum = you can x-fade between loops this way.

PS - Someone else posted this trick last year and I'm going by memory to some extent.
