Might have to do with the fact that the 404s only import certain types of WAV files..I never liked doing it:

Check out the manual. This is how to import sounds from memory cards!

1.
Make sure that [PATTERN SELECT] is not lighted.
If it’s lit, press [PATTERN SELECT] to switch it off.
2.
Hold down [CANCEL] and press [RESAMPLE].
“FiL” (File I/E) appears in the display, and [REC] and
[RESAMPLE] begin blinking.
3.
Press [REC].
“iMP” (File Import) appears in the display, [REC] lights, and
[RESAMPLE] goes out.
Pads [1]–[12] begin blinking.

Hi Motorcity.

I think what you're missing here is that the Import Destination Bank and Pad is the one YOU choose the sample to go to. That'll be the pad you want to trigger that samples playback with.

If there's anything wrong with your files, the 404 will say so by putting up "uNS" on the screen. I've already come across this one, even though it was definately a 16 bit 44.1K .wav. Solution was to open it in my audio editor (Adobe Audition) and resave it as a Microsoft Windows PCM .WAV, and then it worked on the 404.

first post here - hope it helps.

Cheers
Jim
