Hi all,

Recently got an SP-404SX, liking everything so far apart from the clicky pads. I also have an MPC 1000 with mpc-stuff fat pads, nice and squishy. I think I tend to annoy the others in the house tapping away on the pads at night.

Are there any options/hacks/ideas for quieter pads? I don't think any 3rd party pads exist. The unit came used, but feels brand new, so I guess I need to wear them in a bit, that may help over time.

Toying with the idea of using my Yamaha SU10 or iPad purely as MIDI input, but the whole plan was to work with the one unit so I'd rather avoid that. May just be the way it is, but thought I'd ask.

Ideas welcome!

Cheers,
LW.

unfortunately, there isn't a way to avoid the "clicky" pads.
you'd have to use an external unit like an MPD
I don't mind the pads. I used to use Maschine, but the pads were stiff... if they are like the MPC pads then those are stiff too.

Take out the pads by removing the face plate and soak in warm water over night. It also works to wear out the numbers on the pads for that authentic 'used' look.

Hi,

I contacted mpc-stuff .. they now have a 404 and are looking into it :) fingers crossed.

Are the pads on the 404A the same as 404/404SX (apart from colour)?

Cheers,
LW.

They should be the same size, except a lot uglier.
