Peace here's a quick beat I did, I tracked out to the DP-03(8track) and then sampled the beat back into the SX using MFX12,and then the same with the OG using Vinyl Sim, can you tell the difference?
I did this because I know a lot of SX cats want the OG404 compression from the Vinyl sim but I'm finding there is ways to achieve said sound on the SX.
Also noticed that the SX MFX12 behaves differently when used via resample method vs using it as a effect from another source, meaning recording from tape,8track etc.....here's the test

A trick I've been using a lot lately is to use mfx 12 on my sx then resampling again with mfx 16 adjusted to taste, my 303 is out of commission so I've been doing that to attempt to emulate the 303 vinyl sim comp on my sx, not quite the same but I get some cool results sometimes.

What's the difference between using mfx12 on straight recording vs on resampling? I never do the former so I'm curious. Also that beat is super dope, I actually like the sx compressor on that better

An sx compressor tip I found in the forums - Turn the limiter on (it's default is off). Turn it on by pressing function & pad 8 (effects limit), then turn it on (1 of the ctrl knobs turns it off & on, the screen will show on) then hit rec.

This changes the way the compressor works.......I like it better, a lot of others have said the same....try it out! I think it does something to other effects to, I need to experiment with it.

So 1st is the OG vinyl sim..sounds a little softer and less tinny
2nd is the sx

Did you put the first and third knobs all the way to 100 (clockwise) and the middle knob (attack) to 0 (counter clock) on the SX ?mfx 12

Beats dope. I never liked or bought the SX because of tHe lack of vinyl sim compression

I noticed Re-sampling a beat with compression will bring out more aliasing and bit warmth as it raises the noise floor and hiss which has already gone thru a/d processing.

Thanks for sharing the comparison

I find that the mfx12 is more wild when resampling vs recording straight in. I've done the same method you do with the mfx12&16,you can get some nice results, thanks on the beat..

You got good ears! To be honest I can't really tell the difference. I had knob 3 all the way up knob1 at 11oclock and knob2 all the way down, that's with etc limit off..Thanks for the kind words and checking the comparison. The SX is really dope alot of nice features, but yes the of has a nice sound and vinyl sim..

Oh yea, def, read the manual.
I read the manual before purchasing the sx
& every other piece of gear I have.
But every once in awhile a feature slips
by me, weather it's due to not knowing the
features full potential, not understanding it
or just not using it, then forgetting it exists.
That's why I love forums & youtube vids,
things get pointed out & people share the
potential of certain features or little tricks :)

^this exactly! I used the effect limit thing on the compressor when I first got my sx but completely forgot about it till you brought it up, then I played with it last night and made 2 cool beats, thanks for the reminder!

I read that the SX Vinyl Sim doesn't actually compress.
