Any tips on how to get the 404sx working as an outboard fx in Ableton? Does the interface require certain ports? I have an audiobox USB with two stereo ins, and a l/r main out.

Not familiar with your interface, but there's a video explaining it here:

Thanks for the reply man. Unfortunately, I've already watched that video, followed the directions, and it didn't work. I believe it's a hardware issue just don't know enough to say so with certainty or know why.

Just googled a little. Don't really know if there's a workaround but it might very well be that they strip the entry level interfaces of some features which would have made it easier to achieve.

You might have seen this too:

All great art is made by overcoming constraints... hope you come up with a good solution. Good luck!

Btw. My Focusrite Forte allows it. It is possible thanks to the software allowing me to set up different mixes for the Headphones and the Main Outs. So, I can have the full mix in my headphones while using the Main outs for Aux sends to the SP.

It says your interface is 2x2 (right?), whereas mine is 2x4 (two in, four out). IN that case your best chance might be to bounce out to some kind of recorder and then reimport it to your Daw.

do you think the focusrite scarlett 2i4 allows it? I tried this before as well but no success

From what I understand yes. As long as you set up different mixes for output 1-2 and 3-4 and make sure you don't cause a feedback loop.

You should be able to have the main mix coming out 1&2 while sending certain sounds out via 3&4 to the SP and back through the inputs. In Ableton you set it all up with the External Effects-rack.
