How do you personally do it? Do you record into a computer, into a digital recorder, mini disc etc

while i dont have other sampler i record into my veeery old computer but i wanna cope sp505 so that they can both work together. you can rerecord from one sampler to the other. or if i will have more cash i may also buy boss multitrack hard-drive recorder. thats my 2 cents.

the shouldve made an option to sample the main outs so you could export your beat afterwards. this is maybe the biggest missing feature on my list.

For the moment I just use the line in on my laptop since I haven't found that interface yet that suits my needs and most importantly my wallet :-). Which reminds me; I should record some new sp-404 beat that I've been dabbling with lately.

All that said I like to keep the recording process as simple as possible, no overdubs no multi track just stereo out of the sp-404 into the laptop. I guess it has to do with the fact that I like the recording process to reflect the beatmaking process; raw and direct. Whenever I make a beat on the 404 I never know what the outcome will be it seems almost as if it's the machine that decides for me how the sample should be chopped and sequenced. I hope I make sense here  but for me the 404 is more a combination of creativity and randomness than the MPC.

I just record the sequence back with everything but one pad muted. This involves turning all the pad's volumes to 0, and going through and turning each one up, tracking, turn it down and move on to the next one. It take's awhile but not super long and I can get control of everything in the end.

But sometimes I'll just dump it all in at once.

Ah fuck it, I tried to record a beat on my laptop last night, shit was distorted as hell I just could not get the input levels right :-( so I went back to my trusty br-532, this little piece of shit does just what it needs to do. It seems like I will need to do more studying b4 I can move on to computer recording.
