Hi! New member here!

I've read in the sp303 section that the pitch shifter in sp303 is different than that in the sp404.

to be more specific, the guys there said that in sp303 the pitch shfifting kind of slows down the sample instead of the detuning that sp404 does when you apply the effect.

i dont know if you got my point, but im very curious about it!

it sounds amazing if it is so! i am an owner of sp404 and i wished that there was this feature on it....

if anyone can share an audio example of this difference, id be grateful...

thanks in advance!

i think they might have been talking about the time/bpm adjustment of a sample. When you increase or decrease the time the sample fits with the bpm without detuning. but there are audible artifacts. the 404 has this feature also.

pitch shifting can be done on the sp404, but in my opinion it does slow down the sample.

i have done a little pitchshifting on bass samples for sub bass, and sampling with the pitch efx on, but resampling the pitchshift is not that good.

an alternative method is to use audacity or soundforge software to pitch your samples and export to your CF card. A bit long I know!

I hope this helps!

I wish that bloody pitch shifter would just do that; pitch a sample up or down without any time correction :-( the one 'real' limitation on a 404 IMO, or perhaps I just haven't figured it out yet.

The pitch shifter is to me the biggest flaw on the SP-404. Like Cheenergies said about shifteing the bass tones, it works for that but resampling shifted tones loses quality. I think it is a challenge because you can't just use any sample because of this flaw but as well it limits alot of potential in the creativity department. Because there are some things that if the pitch/tempo could be altered just a little it would make a world of difference.

I love the pitch shift, personally. Even after I have something done I think turning the pitch up just a little bit makes it sound even better. Sometimes that loss of quality helps, but if it doesn't, I just re-sample the pitch change and then run it through the Isolator with the highs turned up. Sounds just as clear as it did in the first place.
