Running recordings in the red gives you tape saturation/distortion if you record analog on tape. In digital (like the SP) you get harsh digital distortion "clipping". In the world of lofi it's a new interesting artifact to be used or ignored. When resampling sounds I often get the SP warning lights coming on. If the end result sounds good I just go ahead. Otherwise I'll redo the resampling with a lower level to avoid clipping.

for sure. i guess thats the funny thing about the asr 10 in that its like half digital, but it still gives a punch. but yeah was just wondering other peoples methods. i generally try to keep it to a minimum, even though i know some homies go hard in the paint

I let it blink, just enough so that it won't stay on when resampling (so i don't have to turn the level down)

All the time and I love it ;)

Without getting too far into it, I let my kicks/snares run red and my synths & samples are super quiet in order to effect-limit-compress them later for a psuedo sidechain ducking effect.
