what I can do to make the low freq of the bass synth not eat bass drum freqs?
It happens when I hear my audio mixing in a higher volume P.A.
Can I solve this with a mixer EQ?, or compression?, or... :?:
Tks.

On an SP you would apply the compressor to both the synth bass and synth kick, try the bass a little louder and the kick a little lower in volume and then play the kick to the bass and you should here it kinda pop through the bass. Mess with the relative volume levels and take note of how the compressor reacts, you can get some fun stuff going. If things are muddy down there, then a little low pass on the bass and maybe hi pass filter on the kick and resample them to new pads and then do the compressor thingy, resample that deal and then build up from there. Also you could have the kick synth one octave higher in pitch to create less clashing and more harmony. Happy sampling!

It's easiest to do in a DAW like ableton (there are a ton of tutorials out there that show you how to do it)...

Basically the kick will trigger the compression on the bass which causes it to duck out of the way.

You can sort of do it on the SP by applying compression to both the bass and the kick, and then turn down the volume of the bass. The compressor will bring the volume of the bass up, but when you trigger the kick, it will cause the bass to duck out of the way. You kind of have to mess with the levels to get it right.

something I started doing more and more is re-adding eq after compression. Or if it's on a whole mix, for quick masterings, I ll add some Exciter. Exciters add harmonics to the sound. It's to add "air" to tracks, especially with SP tracks, that kinda flat sound gets livened up by adding some exciter.
