yo i hope everyone is well. I just found this forum. I just heard 5th elements- beatjitsu creation. And all i can say is mad props. That is the dopest shit i have heard in a long time. Hip hop needs more creativity like that. And it inspired me to get back into making beats so i am coppin a 404. - I know i will have alot of questions once i get the 404 so i will be back, peace to all. God bless!

no doubt. I cant wait to cop it. I am just waiting for my local store to get it back in stock. Also 5th i wanted to ask u some questions about the pattern sequencer on it. I love the feel of the beatjitsu album, did u use any quantize or mostly live triggering? Cause i heard people complain about the sequencer on the 404 , but it sounds good to me from those tracks. peace

Most of those complaining about the sequencer of the 404 don't know how to rock it or have never used it. I remember posts like; "yeah I bought that piece of shit but I returned it to the shop after 2 days cause the sequencer sux."
2 Days? Go figure the dedication.

i know. the only thing that really bores me with the sequenser is if just make a mistake in the last bars of a long pattern.. then you'll have to listen to the whole beat to delete to delete the last bars, then you have to listen to the whole beat again to record something there.

But i guess you guyss maybe just copy our patterns and play them after eachother?

The Sp-404 is dope by the way!

You don't delete bars, you just delete the sound you want to delete at the moment you want it to be deleted. I start of with an 4 or 8 bar pattern and build that one up. then I'll try out variations with the track mute and make those variations on copies of the same pattern. I'm not saying the 404's sequencer is as complete as my MPC's (not even remotely) but it is still very useable. The 404 is IMHO the one-box-can-do-it-all with the best price/features ratio.

yeah i know how you do it.. but i'm still wondering... is this how it is best to make a long beat?

1 make a pattern
2 make some copies of that pattern
3 make some variations on those patterns by muting/deleting/adding diffrent samples..

5 record the patterns on a hd-recorder, casette, pc or whatever..
