Hi everyone. As recently I relocated to Canada and currently wont be able to produce anything so before I left my country we managed to finalize some of our songs recorded during the period I own the MV8800.

Image

Here it is, 9D's mini album, lyrics performed in Latvian, but at least you can enjoy the music as the whole album was RECORDED USING ONLY ROLAND MV-8800. So for those of you who still cannot decide whether to get the MV or not, my answer is get it while you can - this machine is great. Of course we are not professional audio engineers and recorded this only for our own enjoyment late nights after work so there might be some places where it could be done better but non the less I personally like it. We planned to do the final mix and master at a professional studio but as I was going to Canada and we didn't have the cash the idea was scrapped and what you will hear is pure 100% Roland MV-8800 (with microphone connected to MV using a mic-preamp and a gate/limiter/compressor unit) no other software or hardware used.

Enjoy,
Olby

well, latvian's totally crazy!

i think the album's pretty great, olby - reminds me of Paul's Boutique era BBoys at times (clave, short key stabs, dry funk guitar, overlapped voices, off-time cuts).

i'd maybe move "intervija" later into the album. the fragmentation kinda cuts up the flow at track three, you know?

i also like the deep voiced weirdo that appears every so often....sounds like the cat from the beginning of liquid swords (you know, "choose the ball..."?). i get the feeling if i had any idea what the fuck anyone is saying, i'd be laughing - esp. track 6 w/ the harmonica.

good stuff, olby. i hope you become supreme overlord of latvia cuz of this.

What do you think of that Gate/Compressor/Limiter from Behringer that you have? Good enough? Your beats definitely sound very good to me.

I might go and buy that MDX 2600 too.

By the way the deep voiced man is me!

Speaking about Intervija which in English is Interview we wanted to do a track with short snippets about our previous work, as we had recorded lots of different songs in previous years but because we never finished many of them or due to low quality they never where to be release worthy thats why I cut some of the best pieces into a radio interview that interviews the guy and plays his old songs. It's only a month old release but besides this I have also lot's of other things I could do different, but if we had not released this now then it wouldn't see light never because later we would think that we can do better and would definitely scraped those old recording..

The track six samples an old national folk/pop song and the dude says something along the lines "I'm now living large...because I have the dream pipe (he was referring to some fantasy pipe I don't remember exactly but it wasn't the one you smoke)..." and we flipped that peace into a scratched song that turns it into something like "I'm now living large because I have my bong... " and throughout the song I played and scratched that bit as the bong smoking sound, us laughing and coughing go alongside. That was a tribute to our bong smoking sessions at his crib. ;)

Thats a good peace. Never had any problems with it. Works as it should. easy to setup and has two channels in case you need. as I have only one mic I used only one channel. Gate/expander is very great, as you can definitely hear improvement over noise/signal ratio. Besides it's so cheap that you can't regret nothing at such a low price. I haven't checked but as far as I know there is not anything that offers same features at the same price.
