This is more of a tip to extend your sampling time in the MS-1. The more seasoned MS-1 users (should) know about it.

Prior to sampling anything, set your pitch all the way down to -20. With a 20 mb card, it boosts my sampling time from 31 minutes to 37 minutes. Without a card, you'd probably get an additional 7-10 seconds in any sound grade. Stay busy, fellas!!

Off topic: I watched a redbull music academy interview with Hank Shocklee where he mentions some techniques he used like having 1/4" jacks plugged in half way to get a filtered effect and putting turntables near monitors when sampling.

That trick with the turntable next to the speaker is an old DJ technique. That was the first method to get wobbly bass in a sample 8)

The halfway jack thing is new to me though. Will experiment.

that would probably be a pain in the ass since I don't think you can assign notes on the MS1, you'll always have to work in the same bank

Boombapp cracks me up. It sound like you have more gear than any one person I have ever met...AND I AM STRAIGHT JEALOUS. May I ask what your do with 4 MS-1's. Been working with two at a time or something?

I have three samplers that I take with me everywhere. The SU-10, MS-1, and SP-202. Sampling on the go type thing. Been really using these a lot lately when I go to pricey record stores. It's hard to whip out the 202 without looking suspicious but the MS and SU are perfect for this.

I'll use another MS with the 303 and 505 to add some extra bite and for sample editing.

The other gets used to make beats. Being unemployed for the last three months has really given me more time to work with all sorts of different combos and other sampler integration.

Where I live people buy samplers, sequencers, and synths and get rid of them at the pawn shops for next to nothing. It's a shame how much I've seen sitting on a pawn shop rack for DIRT CHEAP because the original owner didn't know what they were doing with it. I on the other hand, know what those things are and what they do. There is never anything wrong with these machines. They work perfectly. Some may look better than others but they all function flawlessly. I've never had anything that has been a hassle to upgrade or refurbish.

I've seen an Ensoniq EPS go for $50, and MPC 2000 Classic go for $200, and on and on.

I'll buy it, fix it if it needs repair, max out the memory if it's reasonable, and then I'll flip it to someone who really wants it. I know a lot of people who can help me find diagnostic disks and all sorts of sampler odds and ends so I can ensure the quality of what I'm selling or trading.

I've been doing this since college and it gets me some quick loot when I need it. I'm sitting on a lot of gear right now and looking to liquidate.

Post subject:  Re: ms 1 sampler

yeah it's worth it I guess. if you sample in long 1 or 2. Don't forget that memory card is 1 poly. I used to sample my 404 liveplay into the ms1. it was kind of my 1track recorder ahaha.

Post subject:  Re: ms 1 sampler

I could be wrong but in long 1 i think around 28 second. Also i think this doubles if you keep it mono.

Well 28 seconds on Standard mode and 53 seconds on Long 1 and Long 2 about a minute.

Even though from a card is one poly you can use the remaining 3 poly from the internal bank. So you can have a long ass sample playing from the card and you can layer other stuff on top from the internal.

so without the card it's exactly the same time sampling as for the su10.

Post subject:  Re: ms 1 sampler

my MS-1 started to get really noisy when I sample, whatever the inputs are.

It sound super fine when the sampling is armed, i can feel let's say, the long1 and 2 mode quality but it's nowhere like that once sampled.

it's like pure radio noise then the sound is MEGA distorted.

something worth nothing, let's say I put a threshold to start sampling, it start automaticly as the input I feed would be really noisy, but they're not (as I can sample it perfectly on the 404sx)

sometime it sound like that, sometime it's fine. any tips?
