MS-1 has mute groups so yes, it can retrigger a kick if you set the sample to Drum with a mute group. Without the mute group setting, the kick will sound to the end no matter how fast you hit it, it'll sound like an echo, but with the mute group turned on, every hit will cancel the previous hit. Capeesh?

Got it, you put the pad on the mute group so it will turn itself off and retrigger.

Too bad there's only one mute group, but this machine could be more useful than I thought previously.

Quick question: Would I be able to use this with my MS? I found a SanDisk brand 20 mb Compact Flash card and was wondering if these would work in the MS or if I needed the 1.13 o.s. upgrade to use them.

You'll like it. Its Divide feature is a form of Chop. No effects but its pitch feature is sweet enough, the sound gets lo-fi the more you pitch down. The more you lower the grade, the slower the sample gets, and if you sample in Long2 and raise the grade to Standard or High the sample speeds up. No timestretch on this, just straight pitchin'.

Its simple to use, in fact, I operate my MV like an MS-1, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Damn, that MS-1 looks mad clean!! Mines remains dusty no matter how many times I passed the cloth on it.

Here's a trick I've been using for years, kind of like a mind trick than a technical one but y'all are my SP fam. Use the MS-1 as your sampler and the SP-X0X as your multitracker and you got yourself a full studio.

Gagarin killed that Baile beat on the MS. That shit was ill!!

Ill Greezy, I love using that pitch trick. I'll pitch all the way down and set the sample grade to lo-fi 2 BEFORE I throw a sample into the unit for some extra crustiness.

If anyone here is on Facebook, I've put together an MS-1 fan page there. Look for it and join up!!

Ape, glad that you got it just in time for the holiday! It's also pretty sweet that you received a memory card a long with it!! I'm sitting down with the MS-1 and the SU-10 this afternoon. I'm going to try to cook up something fresh and crispy!!

I was working with mine earlier today and I noticed that I'd get horrible feedback when I'd sample. I found the problem was my PSA adapter. The connection was loose and also would automatically power on and off when I'd lift it beyond a certain level. Just purchased a new PSA 120-T but hope that my sampler hasn't sustained too much damage!

Yeah, thats normal. My MS-1 makes a horrible digital distortion after sampling, I think due to a little static in the RCA jacks. So far, things run good if I turn the MS first and then the amp and etc.

BTW, the AC adaptor for the MPC500 works fine with the MS-1. :D

My portable "lo-fi trinity" consists of the SU-10, SP-202, and of course, the MS. Battery powered is the way to go!!

The 202 is definitely the center piece and helps with filters, pitch, and various f/x.

I heard of this electronic/IDM producer by the name of Wobbly from NY who did live sets with the 202 and SU-10 only, so any combination, or all three, will provide you with dope lo-fi sampling capabilities.

I'm excited to hear some of your MS tunes. I hope to have one of mine up in the listening section soon.
