hey fellow beat feens,
i just got my tascam cd player/guitar trainer. this things cool as hell, you only pitch down but you can basically pitch a cd down like a record player or even time stretch down. then you can loop a section real quick and add effects to it, it aint the best effects but its effects.
but im bout to go hit up the pittsburgh library and dig through their cd collection.
taking my sp too!
but uh, im just asking for some suggestions, i like jazz but sampling it has always been hard as hell. alot of the jazz records i got are that sort of improv jazz thats all over the place. anyone know of any uh.... "tempo-following" jazz. if you know what i mean, like gil scott heron, dorthy ashby, herbie hancock. any other similar artist that be good to get into.
ill prolly be off at the library after i get done typing this but im a rob that mofo blind tomorrow too!
peece

stick to labels and artists, blue note, kudu. cti etc... depending on the sound look for years and dates. Jazz changes alot with technology and instruments so find artists that youy like and branch from there.

everyone says that, look at the labels, does that really work, with jazz. i know some hip hop labels got all kinds of artist, is jazz different. everyones like "blue note", but i stay away from it cause i feel like madlib sampled it all.
im looking for artist similair to fela kuti, joe sample, dorthy ashby, antibalas afrobeat and the budos band. these guys (and gals) got alot of rhythm.
suggestions appreciated, ill try that label thing too and the dates is definitly a good idea.

labels and it helps to know who played with who... if u do that u can construct a family tree of sort....

take mr Herbie Hancock for instance... he's played with wayne shorter whose played with miles davis who also played with coltrane and so on...

that was done real loosely since @ one point in time all of those dudes played w/ eachother...

but if u took one of those names and maybe a drummer like james gadson and go from there... make a list and ALWAYS KEEP IT CLOSE!

Check out some of the Blue Note records.
Ah, I can recommend Art Blakey and Lee Morgan records.

theres so much music out there. its endless. the key is to find a place with good records. Like one of the artist you like and just find all the other artist that played together and it just grows.
