Any solo piano albums I'm missing out on? I'm looking for some names of nice albums, so far I've only got some stuff by Keith Garrett, Thelonious Monk and one by Walter Bishop Jr.
Help is appreciated, which is needless to say, because why else would I open a new thread?

Anyways, I'm looking for some rare solo piano jazz albums.

Thanks in advance, but only if I get help, otherwise you don't get any thanks from me at all.

Oh yeah today I'm rainbow.

Right, i just checked my collection, I have Everyone Digs Bill Evans(doesn't sound too rare :P), but it's got much too much percussion for my tastes. I'm looking for some solo piano albums without drums or bass, just piano.

yes, you're right, he is not effectively rare...
maybe you can try with elliott gould? solo piano, classical not jazz, maybe a little percussive but who knows...
he made many variations on bach ,beetohven etcetc

Purely piano? Why not go for the more jazzy kind of soul albums? They tend to have more than enough useful piano.

Let me put it this way, your could sample Mozart, but I doubt that would give you anything more useful than an album full of other instruments would.

Still, there are also a bunch of people that released only instrumental music. The more classical stuff tends to have a lot of piano inside.

I'll let you know when I come across an artist that could be useful to you. ( I've got like 50 lp's that I haven't listened to yet. )

Alright, I'll see what I can find from him, you never know what you can use. I just picked up something from Michel Petrucciani, who's pretty cool.

Vince Guaraldi albums are good, you know the piano tunes you hear on Charlie Brown cartoons. I got a few Peanuts LPs and they're sample worthy. He did jazz albums as well.

Errol Garner got some sweet piano playing.

And please don't sleep on Duke Ellington, I know he's not rare but the man can play a mean tune. On an interview, he was asked "What do you think about when you're playing?" Duke said "Playing?! When I'm on the piano, I'm just dreaming." I love that shit!

Stanley Cowell is great. He released a lot of solo piano sampled by a lot of cats. I've got a couple of joints but the one to check is Illusion Suite on ECM if i can recall. He did a lot of stuff on Strata East worth checking out too.

Did you know, that Garner made that song up as he was getting down to the studio to record it? Yup, he did, and the rest of that album was made up as he went along.
