Going to Japan for the first time next month. Will be mostly in Tokyo, Shibuya specifically.

If you live in Japan or know specific spots to go dig, lets go!

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Maaaaaaaate you're going to have a great time!!

Been living in Japan for the last couple of years. Been all over but spent most of my time out west.

Decided early that I didn't want to have to send a ton of crates back when I leave so I didn't do any dedicated digging while here but still hung out with a lot of DJs and music lovers.

In Tokyo, you want to get over to Koenji. Look up where the record shops are first because they can be hard to find. It's also got a chill nightlife there too.

Shimonokitazawa is good too but getting a bit too well known. Thus prices going up and selections are going down.

If you are looking for gear, head to Ochanomizu on the other side of the city near Akihabara. More for musical instruments there is still lots of good gear there.

Book Off is a second hand music, books, games and goods store. They are everywhere in Japan. Sometimes they only have books but other times they have music and gear (hard off). I go to the one near my house every week looking for deals.

Honestly the best deals and rarest records are going to be out of the city. The countryside is beautiful here.

How's your Japanese level? Most people in Tokyo speak fairly good English but a little local language goes a long way. I found all my favourites with おすすめ (osusme) which just means recommendation. With "record shop" and in polite form it would be レコードやおすすめおねがいします (record ya osusume onegaishimasu). If I was digging in Tokyo, I would use this phrase in every record shop, every music based bar and to anyone like minded.
